Aquatic Invasive Species Fieldwork Coordinator
The Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) Fieldwork Coordinator will support the Finger Lakes PRISM in a critical role overseeing major aquatic programs. They will help to plan, supervise, and coordinate program-specific efforts that address prevention, monitoring, and control of AIS throughout the Finger Lakes PRISM region. Working under the supervision of Finger Lakes Institute (FLI) staff, the AIS Fieldwork Coordinator will support the supervision of the Finger Lakes Institute's Watercraft Inspection Steward Program (WISP), and their macrophyte monitoring program. The Finger Lakes Institute's WISP places staff at public boat launches regionally to educate boaters and inspect watercraft for invasive species. The macrophyte monitoring program employs technicians to sample for and report observations of macrophytes at priority locations throughout the region. This position will work closely with Finger Lakes PRISM and FLI staff to deliver multidisciplinary, integrated programming that benefits the Finger Lakes Watershed.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- The supervision of 20+ seasonal watercraft stewards
- Support critical operational tasks for the WISP - scheduling, on-call assistance, permitting, weekly data review and reporting
- Travel (with personal vehicle) around Finger Lakes region visiting stewards at boat launches
- Support the planning and logistics for the macrophyte monitoring program, including permitting, travel arrangements, and technical support
- Coordinate and conduct public education and outreach programs focused on invasive species
- Meetings with stewards will occur on the following waterbodies: Hemlock, Canadice, Honeoye, Canandaigua, Keuka, Seneca, Cayuga, Owasco and Otisco Lakes, Whitney Point Reservoir, Sodus Bay, parts of the Erie Canal, Genesee River, Lake Ontario in Rochester, NY, and other locations as needed
