Who are we looking for?
We are seeking a ARC Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Tuneable Laser Photochemistry to join School of Chemistry and Physics, Faculty of Science.
The School of Chemistry and Physics is seeking to appoint a Research Fellow in tunable laser photochemistry to work on an Australian Research Council (ARC) Discovery Project focused on understanding the fundamental mismatch between photochemical reactivity and molecular absorptivity. The appointee will play a central role in experimental photochemistry and photophysics, applying wavelength-resolved techniques using and maintaining tunable laser systems to investigate photochemical reaction efficiency. The position will focus on photochemical action plots and microenvironment-controlled reaction studies using advanced laser instrumentation and analytical methods
About us
QUT is a major Australian university with a global outlook and a 'real world' focus. We are an ambitious and collaborative institution that seeks to equip our students and graduates with the skills they will need in an increasingly disrupted and challenged world.
The School of Chemistry and Physics is leading teaching and research advances at the frontiers of the physical and chemical sciences to solve real-world scientific challenges. We cover a diverse range of research topics, ranging from the incredibly small (such as atoms and single molecules) to the exceptionally large (supermassive blackholes). The School conducts frontier research investigating not only the fundamental aspects of matter but also how it interacts with light, radiation or plasma, and exploits the interaction for transformative materials research that enables real-world devices and applications.
What you need to succeed
- Completion of a doctoral qualification in physics or a closely related discipline.
- Demonstrated expertise in photophysics, and optics as well as photochemistry, particularly in wavelength-dependent and/or precision photochemistry systems.
- Strong experimental experience in laser-based photochemical experimentation, including the use of monochromatic and tunable light sources.
- Proven ability to design and conduct wavelength-resolved photochemical experiments, including photochemical action plot methodologies or related approaches.
- Demonstrated experience in photophysical data acquisition and analysis, including recording and interpretation of absorption spectra, reaction yields, and quantum efficiencies as well as a strong ability to use of variety of techniques employed for the characterisation of organic molecules and materials such as NMR spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, HPLC, GPC, UV/vis and fluorescence spectroscopy.
- Ability to contribute to independent and collaborative research, including working across experimental and theoretical domains within a multidisciplinary team.
- Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity and Indigenous Australian engagement.
