Ngā kōrero mō te tūranga – About the role

We are seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Delivery Lead – Software & Architecture Services to provide operational leadership across the University’s software development, business applications, and enterprise architecture functions.

Reporting to the Deputy Chief Information Officer, you will lead the day-to-day delivery of software and architecture services, ensuring high availability, service reliability, and the successful execution of agreed projects and work programmes. You will oversee a team of Architects and Software Engineers, embedding strong technical governance, consistent development standards, and modern DevOps and CI/CD practices.

This role plays a critical part in enabling the University’s digital strategy. You will coordinate technical planning for business-as-usual and project work, maintain architecture roadmaps, and ensure compliance with cyber security and ITIL-aligned service management practices. Working closely with ITS leaders, project managers and business stakeholders, you will support informed prioritisation, transparent decision-making, and delivery excellence across the digital portfolio.

This is a full-time role 37.5 hours a week, based on our Hillcrest Campus.

Are you an experienced technology leader who thrives in the operational engine room, the person who ensures things get done, teams stay on track, and service quality is high? Do you bring both the technical credibility to engage a team of architects and engineers, and the leadership maturity to develop people, manage backlogs, and drive continuous improvement?

You understand that good architecture only delivers value when it is consistently applied. You know how to balance business as usual service reliability with project delivery, and you are comfortable navigating competing priorities across a broad portfolio. You lead with clarity, coach with intent, and hold yourself and your team to high standards.

You will demonstrate:

  • Proven senior ICT leadership experience in a large, complex organisation (7–10 years minimum)
  • Demonstrated experience managing technical teams
  • Experience managing enterprise SaaS and public cloud platforms
  • Strong understanding of IT architecture disciplines and software delivery practices
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement skills with the confidence to have direct, constructive conversations
  • ITIL, TOGAF, or similar certifications (desirable)
