PROPERTY AND CAMPUS DEVELOPMENT DIVISION | KĀ RAWA ME TE WHANAKEHAKA PAPA TAURIMA

The role | Te mahi

As Asbestos Coordinator you will be responsible for coordinating asbestos-related compliance and supporting all associated works in line with the University of Otago Asbestos Management Plan.

In this new role you will be working closely with Facilities Managers, Trades staff, and our Health & Safety Team to ensure accurate information flow, compliance, and smooth operational delivery across the organisation.

You will help develop and implement policies and procedures and coordinate all:
• Survey report management
• Asbestos location information
• Liaison with surveyors
• Procurement processes
• Staff training and guidance

You will ensure compliance with the Health and Safety at Work (Asbestos) Regulations 2016 and other relevant legislation, while promoting best-practice standards across the University.

Your skills and experience | Kā pūkeka me kā wheako

We are seeking an experienced health and safety professional with a strong background in construction and asbestos compliance to join our team.

You will bring sound knowledge of the Health and Safety at Work (Asbestos) Regulations 2016, and experience across complex building portfolios.

This role requires excellent communication and reporting skills, the ability to manage competing priorities and a proactive approach to stakeholder engagement.

Successful candidates will also have:
• Demonstrated experience in a health and safety role, ideally within a fast-paced construction environment.
• Strong working knowledge of asbestos regulations, relevant legislation, and quality standards.
• Proven ability to coordinate projects, manage resources, and maintain compliance under strict deadlines.
• Experience delivering training, contractor inductions, and engaging effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
• Dedication to working in a culturally safe and respectful manner and understanding and appreciation of Te Ao Māori, Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles, and Pasifika values.

The Property and Campus Development Division supports the ongoing academic mission of Ōtākou Whakaihu Waka by providing the best facilities, services and physical environment in which staff, students and the public can learn, teach, live and play. Everyone benefits directly and indirectly from the dedicated efforts of Property Services Division employees, and we're proud of the important role we play. The Division is responsible for buildings with a replacement cost of NZ$2.5 billion and more than 22,000 hectares of land.

This is a permanent, full-time (37.5 hours per week) position based in Ōtepoti, Dunedin.

The appointment range for this role is $69,931 to $74,609 per annum. Top of range $80,285.

Candidates are advised that interviews will be held after the Easter holiday.

You must have the right to live and work in Aotearoa, New Zealand to be considered for this position.
