Major/Essential Functions
- Serve as the Orthodontics Residency Program Director, and work with leadership and other faculty to build the Orthodontics Residency Program according to CODA accreditation standards, for advanced dental education programs in orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics.
- Participates in course administration and instruction for the orthodontic residency curriculum.
- Employs multiple teaching methods including case-based instruction, large- and small group discussion, lecture, demonstration, simulation, team-based learning, and distance education.
- Provides formative and summative assessment of resident performance.
- Provides individual support, feedback, and advice to orthodontic residents.
- Works closely with the course and curriculum committees, fellow faculty, and key administrators to accomplish the goals and objectives of the orthodontic residency's curriculum.
- Engage in advancement of scientific knowledge through research and/or scholarship.
- Serve the academic community through participation in institutional governance, such as committee work and other administrative duties.
- Demonstrate professionalism in accordance with the Woody L. Hunt School of Dental Medicine Declaration of Faculty Professional Responsibility.
- Contribute to the community through academically-related public service complementary to the institutional mission.
- Adhere to all TTUHSC El Paso policies, procedures and processes.

- Perform all other duties, as assigned
Required Qualifications
- D.M.D. or D.D.S. degree from a CODA-accredited dental school, or equivalent degree from a non-CODA-accredited dental school
- Successful completion of CODA-accredited training program in orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics
- Board certification by the American Board of Orthodontics
- Texas Dental Licensure, or eligibility for an unrestricted Texas Dental License
- A minimum of two-years of teaching experience in an academic orthodontic departmental setting
- Knowledge of the required biomedical sciences relating to orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in the use of medical/dental imaging, laboratory findings, and clinical case-based scenarios in the teaching of orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics
- Experience with innovative teaching methods, such as interactive large and small group formats, laboratory-based instruction, team-based learning, case-based learning, problem-based learning, and distance education
- Experience with curriculum and clinical management software systems
- Participation in national organizations or committees devoted to dental education
- Experience in dental education scholarship
- Experience in the development of grant proposals and the management of extramural funding
- Emerging or established regional or national reputation for associate professor or higher rank
