Assistant/Associate/Full Professor - Maternal-Fetal Medicine - Sunnybrook Health Science Centre

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of Toronto’s Temerty Faculty of Medicine along with the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre (SHSC) are seeking a full-time physician with subspecialty training in Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM). The successful candidate will be resourced to hold an academic position description of Clinician Investigator. The candidate must be eligible for a full-time clinical academic appointment at the rank of assistant/associate/full professor at the University of Toronto, or as Lecturer with a commitment to achieve rank of Assistant Professor within the 3-year Academic probationary period, either via sufficient publications or completion of a master’s degree. Applications from individuals at the higher ranks of associate professor or professor are welcome. The anticipated start date will be by July 1st, 2026, or at a mutually agreeable date.

Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre is a tertiary referral site for MFM and Neonatology. Our MFM division comprises 9 full time faculty members and provides comprehensive high risk pregnancy care. Special interest clinics include complex maternal disorders, preterm birth prevention and management, placental disorders prevention and management, multi-fetal pregnancy care, a one-of-a-kind accessibility clinic, and comprehensive fetal ultrasound/diagnostics, fetal echocardiography and invasive prenatal diagnosis.

SHSC is a fully affiliated teaching hospital with the University of Toronto and is associated with the Sunnybrook Research Institute (SRI). The Dan Women and Babies Obstetrics and Gynecology program/SRI includes a PhD Scientist dedicated to maternal fetal research, expertise in clinical trials management and opportunities to link with the Institute of Clinical Evaluative Sciences (ICES). The hospital Department provides a full range of clinical services in Obstetrics & Gynaecology, including 4,000 births/year, and includes the subspecialties of Gynecologic Oncology, Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery and Urogynaecology. The MFM Division participates in the University of Toronto accredited subspecialty training program in MFM.

We are seeking a candidate that will provide consultation services and ongoing care for complex pregnancy and delivery, with a clinical and academic focus on maternal hypertension, diabetes, and obesity care.

The successful candidate will be expected to participate in a component of low-risk pregnancy care, high-risk clinic care, comprehensive ultrasound reporting, prenatal diagnosis, high risk antenatal inpatient care, and labor and delivery on-call.

Our MFM division seeks to appoint either a newly graduated physician or a more experienced mid-career individual. The successful candidate will be provided with protected academic time to facilitate evolution of a successful career as a Clinician Investigator, developing a grant-based program of research. The scholarly activities will be supported by a salary stipend. The desirable qualities of the successful candidate as a Clinician Investigator would include an appropriate graduate degree (MSc or PhD).

The administrative position of Maternal Fetal Medicine Division Head will also be available, and the overall role definition within the department may be negotiated depending on the individual candidate interests, experience and qualifications.

Enthusiastic participation in all levels of our teaching and education mandate is expected for subspecialty trainees in Maternal Fetal Medicine, residents in Obstetrics and Gynaecology together with a share of department responsibilities to our 4-year MD Undergraduate Program. The successful candidate will promote and demonstrate excellence in professional practices and conduct.

The successful candidate must hold an MD degree, must either be licensed or eligible for medical licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario and must either be board-certified (or eligible for certification) in the sub-specialty of MFM by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) or have achieved an equivalent level of regulated sub-specialty training in MFM.

Year 2 fellows currently enrolled in RCPSC-accredited subspecialty training programs are eligible to apply. Compensation will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The position will be placed in the Hospital Department Practice Plan with an anticipated gross annual compensation of greater than $400,000 (estimated based on fee-for-service billings).

Applications will be accepted until October 24, 2025, or until the position is filled.

Suitably qualified candidates are requested to apply with a specific letter of interest, curriculum vitae and the names and contact information of three referees via email to:
