"Assistant/Associate/Full Professor of Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence and Data Science"

The Indiana University Luddy School of Informatics, Computing and Engineering, IU Indianapolis campus, invites applications for one open rank tenured or tenure-track position in Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence and Data Science. The candidate will have a tenure home in the Department of Human-Centered Computing, with an affiliate appointment in the Department of Computer Science. Appointments will begin August 1, 2026. Candidates should have an excellent research record, demonstrated through high-impact peer-reviewed publications. They should also demonstrate the ability or significant potential to secure external funding and develop a forward-looking research agenda as a Principal Investigator (PI). The typical effort for a tenured or tenure-track faculty member is expected to be 40% research, 40% teaching and 20% service.

Research expertise in any promising area at the intersection of AI, People, and Data Science will be considered, with preference for candidates who match technical depth with human-centered applications. The candidates are expected to teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and collaborate across disciplines to address real-world data challenges. Examples include, but are not limited to:

• Machine learning and deep learning
• Descriptive, predictive, and prescriptive analytics
• Data mining
• Natural language processing
• Computer vision
• Computational Sustainability
• Human-AI collaboration
• Human-AI alignment
• Data science for societal good

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Computer Science, Information Science, Statistics, Data Science, or related discipline. Applicants must complete their degree before the starting date of the appointment.
• Demonstrated ability to develop a record of outstanding research productivity and impact in fundamental aspects of data science. The ability to secure external funding is required.
• Demonstrated ability to teach effectively in-person, online, or in blended learning for courses in areas such as statistical machine learning, mathematical foundations of data science, data analytics, deep learning, cloud computing and related areas.
