Description
Effective immediately, a permanent full-time faculty position as a Clinician Scientist is available in the Division of Nephrology, Department of Paediatrics, at The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids), 555 University Avenue, Toronto, ON, Canada. The new faculty member will also be appointed in the Research Institute at The Hospital for Sick Children. The successful candidate must be eligible for a full-time faculty appointment at the rank of assistant, associate or full professor.
SickKids is a world-renowned academic health science centre dedicated to the care of children, affiliated with the University of Toronto. The SickKids Research Institute includes seven fully integrated research programs and is housed in the Peter Gilgan Centre for Research & Learning in the Toronto Discovery District. The position offers a highly collaborative environment near multiple teaching and research hospitals and Canada’s largest university.
The Division of Nephrology comprises fifteen faculty members focused on pediatric nephrology, including dialysis, apheresis, transplantation, and research into childhood and rare kidney diseases aligned with SickKids’ “Precision Child Health” initiative.
The successful candidate is expected to have a strong background in basic science, with expertise in areas such as multi-omics, gene editing, disease modelling, or drug discovery. Preference is given to candidates focused on rare kidney diseases. A strong publication record, grant success, and postdoctoral training (typically PhD-level) are expected.
The role includes teaching and mentoring students across the division, department, and university, with eligibility for cross-appointment to graduate programs to supervise trainees. Strong collaboration across clinical, academic, and research environments is expected.
The position includes both research and clinical care responsibilities, with approximately 20–30% of time dedicated to patient care. Clinical expertise in pediatric nephrology is expected, including chronic kidney disease, renal replacement therapy, and kidney transplantation.
Compensation
Rank and salary range: $275,000 – $352,000, commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Eligibility Requirements
- MD, MBBS, or equivalent degree
- Certification (or eligibility) from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or equivalent)
- Licensure (or eligibility) with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario
- Strong proficiency in English
