The Department of Civil and Mechanical Engineering program at York College of Pennsylvania invites applications for a tenure-track (open rank) Professor of Biomedical Engineering position beginning in the Fall 2027 semester, coinciding with the arrival of the first class of students for our new Biomedical Engineering program. The overall department houses approximately 300 undergraduates, eleven full-time faculty members, and five part-time and full-time staff members. The ABET-accredited…
programs in our department are characterized as hands-on with small class sizes and extensive student/faculty interactions. Students in the engineering departments participate in design/build/test projects throughout the curriculum, culminating with a yearlong Capstone Design project that requires a functioning prototype. This includes several courses in our state-of-the-art Materials Science and Fluid Mechanics laboratories. A keystone of the York College engineering programs is that our students participate in two semesters of engineering work in an industry setting as part of our required co-operative learning program prior to graduation. This gives our students valuable experience that they can then apply in their classroom learning. For this position, we seek candidates that are eager to teach undergraduates in a student-centered, project-based learning environment. Applicants with a desire to utilize their knowledge and skills in mentoring undergraduates, conducting research with undergraduates, and teaching introductory engineering courses should apply. Expertise across all areas of biomedical engineering is valued, however, knowledge of quantitative physiology and bioinstrumentation are especially valued. The successful candidate will teach a variety of undergraduate foundational and biomedical engineering courses throughout the fall and spring semesters. Additionally, the successful candidate will be expected to advise undergraduate students regarding their course curriculum and on career matters; perform service to the department, college, and/or community; and show the potential for research work that can involve undergraduate students. The successful candidate will also help develop and refine the courses within the new Biomedical Engineering program. Applicants must have an Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field by the start date of the appointment.
