The School of Psychological and Behavioral Sciences (SPBS) at Southern Illinois University Carbondale announces two openings for one tenure-track Assistant and one advanced assistant or tenured Associate Professor in the Counseling and Rehabilitation Education (CARE) program. The anticipated starting date for both positions is August 11, 2026. Review of applications will begin December 1, 2025; applications will be accepted until the positions are filled.
Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity.
Examples of Duties
Area of research specialization is open, but candidates are expected to conduct productive and programmatic research and compete for extramural research funding. Candidates are also expected to teach graduate courses. For those applying for the Associate Professor position, it is expected that the applicant will take on the duties as Program Director of the CARE program. Applicants for the rank of Associate Professor must demonstrate a record of teaching effectiveness and scholarship that is commensurate with appointment at SIU Carbondale at the rank of Associate Professor.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Candidates must have their Ph.D. in Counselor Education or Rehabilitation Counselor Education from a CACREP-accredited program.
Preferred Qualifications:
Preference will be given to candidates with interest in clinical mental health and clinical rehabilitation counseling, in addition to specialty courses. Competitive candidates will be able to supervise graduate students in practicum and internship and are expected to mentor graduate students in research. Applicants who are certified rehabilitation counselors, certified mental health counselors or licensed professional counselors are preferred. We are particularly interested in applicants with experience in clinical mental health counseling, clinical rehabilitation counseling, substance use counseling, or a combination thereof. The Counseling and Rehabilitation Education program is accredited by CACREP. We have a university-based Clinical Center, a Center for Autism Spectrum Disorders, and an Evaluation and Developmental Center. There are opportunities to collaborate with our faculty at these and other university centers, as well as with rural community mental health centers, substance use and neurorehabilitation facilities, and the SIU School of Medicine.
