Assistant/Associate Professor - Cybersecurity

Essential Functions
The successful candidate will contribute to the growth and strategic advancement of the Cybersecurity (CYBR) program through teaching, research, and service, with particular emphasis on enabling externally funded research and interdisciplinary collaboration. Anticipated start date is August 2026.
Essential duties include:
- Teaching undergraduate and graduate cybersecurity courses aligned with program needs, with emphasis on upper-division, graduate-level, and dual-level (4xxx/8xxx) courses supporting both BS and MS CYBR students.
- Developing and sustaining an active research agenda in cybersecurity or closely related areas
- Seeking and securing external research funding from federal agencies, state partners, foundations, and/or industry.
- Supervising and mentoring graduate students, including MS thesis/project students and PhD students in the college-wide doctoral program.
- Contributing to curriculum development
- Providing service to the School of Interdisciplinary Informatics, the College of Information Science & Technology, the university, and the broader cybersecurity community.
Work Schedule
M-F 8-5, Potential for evening and weekend hours
Additional Duties
- Contributing to strategic growth areas in cybersecurity, aligned with the unit and college strategic plans
- Contributing to academic designation activities, including supporting the continuation of our existing National Security Agency (NSA) Center of Academic Excellence (CAE) designations in Cyber Defense (CAE-CD) and Cyber Operations (CAE-CO), and emerging efforts to become designed in Artificial Intelligence (CAE-AI) and Research (CAE-R).
Required Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a closely related field by the time of appointment.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a broad range of academic, industry, and government partners.
- Record of scholarly activity in cybersecurity appropriate to rank, evidenced by cited peer-reviewed publications and/or externally funded research.
- Demonstrated ability to teach cybersecurity courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
- Experience mentoring graduate students.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in an interdisciplinary environment.
Additional Required Qualifications at the Associate level
- Tenured appointment at an accredited four-year U.S. institution.
Preferred Qualifications
- Research agenda aligned with strategic growth areas such as cyber operations, cyber defense, human-centered and usable cybersecurity, cyber risk and resilience, security analytics and threat intelligence, adversarial and defensive AI, sociotechnical security, or cyber influence and deception.
- Experience or demonstrated interest in contributing to interdisciplinary research centers, institutes, or unit-, college-, or campus-level strategic initiatives.
- Experience engaging with government, defense, and/or industry partners in research, education, or workforce development contexts.
- Demonstrated experience developing or sustaining external partnerships or collaborations
