The Medical College of Georgia (MCG) at Augusta University invites applications for a faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor in the Educational Innovation Institute (EII). The mission of the EII is to champion excellence and innovation in health sciences education, and educational scholarship that enhances learning and develops educational leaders locally and globally. We seek a collaborative scholar with expertise in medical education research and assessment, ability to innovate with AI approaches, and a strong potential to contribute to medical or health professions education. This position reports to the Associate Dean for Faculty Development and is a full-time, in-person role based on the Augusta University campus. The position also has accountability to the Senior Associate Dean for Evaluation, Accreditation, and CQI. This position does not meet the requirements to be on a tenure track.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct independent and collaborative research in medical education, with an emphasis on areas such as learning sciences, curriculum design, assessment, faculty development, or educational technology integrated into the MCG strategic plan and related EII tactical plans.
  • Integrate and evaluate AI tools to enhance teaching, learning, and medical education research.
  • Publish in high-quality peer-reviewed journals and present at national conferences.
  • Apply research findings to advance curriculum, learner assessment, and faculty development, using evidence-based strategies and scholarly evaluation to enhance teaching and learning.
  • Evaluate, study, and improve student assessment and evaluation tools as well as processes by applying appropriate analytic methods to performance data, interpreting findings, and translating results into actionable recommendations that strengthen alignment with curriculum objectives and support continuous improvement.
  • Support and partner with MCG faculty, Academic Affairs & curriculum, MCG departments, and programs to support rigorous qualitative or mixed-methods educational research design and implementation.
  • Mentor faculty, residents, fellows, and students in educational research methodology, data analysis, and dissemination.
  • Develop and facilitate faculty workshops that support the progression of research skills from beginner to advanced levels while occasionally integrating content on teaching strategies, learning methodologies, assessment and curriculum design.
  • Provide expert consultation to support faculty in educational research and scholarly activities, fostering continuous improvement and innovation in academic practice.
  • Serve on EII, MCG, and Augusta University committees as appropriate and needed.
  • Other duties as assigned by the MCG Associate Dean for Faculty Development.

Required Qualifications

Doctoral degree (PhD, EdD, PsyD, or equivalent) from an accredited college or university. Demonstrated research experience in a social science field such as education, psychology, educational psychology, anthropology, sociology.

Assistant Professor- Early level career as a faculty member with appropriate post graduate training.

Associate Professor- Mid level career faculty member with at least five years at rank of Assistant Professor or comparable training, background, and experience.

Required faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions and all academic ranks within these institutions shall be:

  • Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)'s requirements for institutional accreditation;
  • Evidence of ability as a teacher;
  • Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned;
  • Successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements); and,
  • Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.

Preferred Qualifications

Background in integrating AI-driven tools or methodologies into medical training programs and/or educational research.

Experience in medical education assessment and evaluation, including performance data analysis and improvement recommendations.

Experience in medical or health professions education research.

Expertise in quantitative/mixed methods research.

Experience in curriculum development, assessment, and/or faculty development.

Experience working in medical education environment (UME, GME programs) with learners and faculty at various levels.

Shift/Salary/Benefits

This position is fiscal year based and works year-round.

The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0 and considered full-time.

Assistant Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.

Associate Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.
