Rank and Nature of Position:
This is a 12-month, tenure-track position for an Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor. The individual will be a faculty member of the LSU AgCenter Northwest Region and report to the Northwest Region Director. The position includes a partial appointment with the Department of Renewable Natural Resources at the LSU main campus in Baton Rouge. The successful candidate will have opportunities to mentor graduate students and participate in graduate education (M.S. and Ph.D.).
Position Overview:
- Research (60%): The successful candidate will develop a comprehensive research program focusing on forest resource stewardship practices. This includes research on forest establishment, intermediate forest stand improvement, and harvesting practices, particularly within loblolly pine and upland hardwood stands. The Hill Farm Research Station, with approximately 300 acres of experimental forest, will serve as the primary site for these research activities.
- Extension (40%): The candidate will develop extension programs in collaboration with LSU AgCenter forestry extension agents to support the Louisiana forestry industry. This includes disseminating research-based information to professionals across Louisiana and the Western Gulf region through publications, workshops, conferences, and other outreach activities.
- Collaboration & Outreach: The candidate will be expected to cooperate with LSU AgCenter scientists, other land-grant institutions, private industries, local governments, and state/federal agencies. Building partnerships with other specialists and extension agents is critical for successful program delivery and impact. The candidate will also contribute to ongoing forestry-based extension programs and develop workshops and conferences for forestry professionals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and lead a research program in forest management and stewardship.
- Produce research publications and deliver research results to the scientific community and stakeholders.
- Seek extramural funding to support research and outreach efforts.
- Develop and implement extension programs to enhance the Louisiana forestry industry.
- Foster collaborations with forestry professionals and industry stakeholders across Louisiana and beyond.
- Communicate research findings and extension content through written, oral, and online formats.
Qualification Requirements:
- Required: Ph.D. in silviculture, applied ecology, ecophysiology, or a related field.
- Desirable: Experience or training in tree growth and development measurements, particularly in response to environmental, soil, and plant interactions.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
