This full-time university post is based in the Academic Department of Radiology with clinical sessions at both Royal Papworth Hospital (RPH) and Cambridge University NHS foundation Trust Hospital (CUH).

The post-holder will develop and lead a programme of academic research in thoracic imaging on the campus. In addition, the post-holder will support the imaging needs of the thoracic oncology, transplant, pulmonary vascular disease unit, cystic fibrosis unit, and cardiothoracic services. The post-holder will contribute to developing new services and research projects with clinical colleagues working in RPH and CUH.

The Department of Radiology are an internationally competitive department undertaking innovative research in medical imaging. We have a team of dedicated academic radiologists working with imaging scientists, with an active doctoral and post-doctoral research programme. We have extensive facilities on campus including 1.5 and 3.0 T MRIs, CT, PET-CT, PET-MRI, radiochemistry facilities and novel technologies such as metabolic MRI. The campus will acquire hyperpolarised xenon MRI for lung imaging and Total Body PET in 2026. Royal Papworth Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is a world-renowned cardiac, thoracic and transplant hospital with an excellent track record in developing and delivering specialist services which is housed in a new, state-of-the-art hospital on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus. RPH is adjacent to the Heart and Lung Research Institute (HLRI) a world-leading multidisciplinary hub for cardiothoracic research and the successful applicant will be supported in developing their research programme between Radiology, RPH, the HLRI, as well as CUH and the wider campus and University. Our researchers work closely with industrial partners including GlaxoSmithKline and AstraZeneca as well as a range of manufacturers of imaging devices. We are looking for a new colleague with the clinical skills, drive and commitment to ensure we maintain our leading-edge status in imaging and thoracic research.

The post is for 5 years.

Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a health assessment. This appointment also requires an Honorary Clinical Contract.
