The Department of Computer Science (DCS) investigates and contributes to shaping the information and communication technology-society interface. DCS promotes interdisciplinary research and closely cooperates with other high-profile research centers in Luxembourg and beyond, as well as with industry and society. The faculty entertains various successful and growing teaching programs and supports lifelong learning activities.

The Department of Computer Science (DCS), headed by Prof. Dr. Jean-Sébastien Coron, is opening an Assistant / Associate Professor (depending on qualifications) position in Theoretical Computer Science.

About the Anne Beffort Excellence Programme:

To strengthen and diversify the existing skills and expertise in the Department of Computer Science, the candidate is expected to:

  • Develop and perform research in Computer Science and establish a research group in Theoretical Computer Science
  • Seek cooperation with researchers within the department and across faculties, centers, and external Luxembourgish research institutions
  • Contribute to the teaching missions of the department at various levels (Bachelor, Master, PhD)
  • Provide lectures in Theoretical Computer Science for bachelor and master programs
  • Advise PhD candidates and contribute to doctoral and postdoctoral training (e.g., organizing research seminars, reading groups, winter and summer schools)

Your Profile

  • A PhD degree in Computer Science or a closely related field
  • A research track record in Theoretical Computer Science, with openness to interdisciplinary collaborations
  • Expertise in some area of computer science such as computational complexity, algorithms, data structures, logic in computer science and AI, semantics, theory of programming, learning theory, parallel algorithms or quantum computing
  • Research publications in theoretical computer science conferences and journals
  • Experience in teaching Computer Science topics at undergraduate, graduate, or postgraduate

Language requirements:

The University of Luxembourg is set in a multilingual and multicultural context. The person hired on this position must be proficient in English. The University encourages Anne Beffort professors who are not proficient in French and German to learn one of the two languages and provides access to language courses to this end.

General Information:

  • Anne Beffort Excellence Programme
  • Contract Type: Fixed-term contract - 5 years (tenure track), with a perspective of a permanent position and promotion to Associate Professor upon a positive evaluation. In the case of a more senior candidate, the position will be offered at the Associate Professor level. At the Associate Professor level, the position is tenured and promotion to Full Professor is possible after 5 years upon positive evaluation.
