Job Description
This Tenure Track position is responsible for supporting the Kinesiology and Physical Education program, including teaching undergraduate and graduate courses and providing academic guidance and mentoring to advisees. In addition, this position will be expected to conduct scholarly activities, including research, and provide service to the department, college, and university, and must have a demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching, research, and service.
Please Note: The salary is determined in accordance with the University's compensation structure and will be commensurate with the candidates' education and experience, within the assigned salary range for this position.
Responsibilities:
Teaching and Curriculum Innovation:
- Deliver engaging undergraduate and graduate courses in Kinesiology-related areas using evidence-based and teaching strategies.
- Design and revise curricula to align with current disciplinary standards, accreditation criteria (ACSM, CAAHEP), and workforce needs.
- Integrate advanced instructional technologies-such as motion capture systems, wearable fitness devices, and AI-assisted learning tools-to enhance experiential learning.
- Supervise student research projects, internships, and capstone experiences that cultivate applied skills and scientific inquiry.
- Develop new course modules in areas such as Athletic Training, Exercise Prescription for Special Populations, Biomechanics, AI Applications in Human Performance, and Health Literacy and Technology Integration.
Research, Scholarship, and Funding:
- Establish a focused research agenda specifically in the Areas of Exercise Science, Sport Management, or Athletic Training.
- Pursue and secure external research funding from agencies such as NIH, NSF, or CDC, and from foundations supporting health promotion and community wellness.
- Publish regularly in high-impact, peer-reviewed journals and contribute to interdisciplinary scholarship in health sciences and technology-enhanced education.
- Mentor undergraduate and graduate students in research design, data collection, analysis, and manuscript preparation.
- Present scholarly findings at regional, national, and international conferences to enhance the visibility of the institution and discipline.
Service, Leadership, and Institutional Development:
- Serve actively on departmental and university committees contributing to academic policy, student success, and strategic planning initiatives.
- Support and participate in program accreditation processes, including data collection, curriculum mapping, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Provide mentorship to student organizations promoting physical activity, health literacy, and professional development in kinesiology.
- Collaborate with colleagues in interdisciplinary initiatives that strengthen community health engagement and experiential learning opportunities.
Community Engagement and Outreach:
- Develop community-based partnerships that foster health education and physical activity among youth and underserved populations.
- Design and implement outreach programs addressing chronic disease prevention, obesity, and health access.
- Contribute professional expertise to public seminars, youth initiatives, and wellness campaigns that promote evidence-based health practices.
- Serve as a liaison between the university and community organizations to enhance the societal impact of kinesiology programs.
Professional Growth and Mentorship:
- Engage in continuous professional development through advanced training, workshops, and professional memberships (e.g., ACSM, SHAPE America, NAKHE).
- Participate in faculty mentoring programs and contribute to the development of early-career faculty and graduate teaching assistants.
- Remain informed of technological and methodological advances in exercise science, biomechanics, and digital health to maintain instructional excellence.
Required Education and Experience:
- Ph.D., Ed.D., or Dr. P.H. in Kinesiology, Exercise Physiology, Health and Human Performance, or a closely related field.
- One to three years of teaching experience in Higher Education.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses in Kinesiology or related disciplines.
- Evidence of an emerging or established research agenda in one or more areas of specialization, such as exercise science/physiology, biomechanics, sport science, sport management, physical activity and health promotion, e-sport, or related fields.
- Record of scholarly publication in peer-reviewed journals or edited volumes.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor and advise students in academic and professional development.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary academic environment.
- Commitment to teaching, research, and service consistent with the mission and goals of Prairie View A&M University.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated success or strong potential for obtaining external research funding (e.g., NIH, NSF, CDC, or foundation grants).
- Expertise in one or more of the following areas:
- Exercise prescription and rehabilitation.
- Sport management.
- Biomechanics and motion analysis.
- Athletic Training.
- Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications, wearable technology, or digital health analytics in kinesiology.
- Experience integrating emerging technologies (AI tools, virtual simulations, or motion capture systems) into instructional or research activities.
- Evidence of community-based engagement or outreach initiatives that promote physical literacy, health access, or wellness in underserved populations.
- Active membership and participation in professional organizations such as the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), SHAPE America, or the National Association for Kinesiology in Higher Education (NAKHE).
- Experience contributing to program accreditation, curriculum development, and assessment processes.
- Evidence of interdisciplinary collaboration in research or academic initiatives.
