Job Description

The Assistant/Associate Professor of Anatomy is a full-time faculty position responsible for teaching, research, and service in the field of veterinary medicine with a particular focus on anatomy. Faculty in this role are expected to foster student learning, participate in research or scholarly activity, and engage in service to the profession and community. The position carries primary responsibility for teaching gross anatomy and related courses (histology and embryology), contributing directly to the mission of the University and the College of Veterinary Medicine.

Required Qualifications

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM/VMD) or PhD in anatomy or a closely related biomedical field.
  • Eligibility for veterinary licensure in the state of Florida (if clinically active)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree, residency training, or specialty board certification in anatomy or a related field.
  • Previous teaching experience in an academic setting.
  • Veterinary clinical experience.
  • Demonstrated record of research, scholarly activity, or professional contributions

Job Duties

  • Develop and deliver professional- and graduate-level courses, classes, and laboratory sessions in veterinary anatomy, including gross anatomy, histology, and embryology
  • Utilize team-based learning and other active-learning strategies to promote engagement, critical thinking, and clinical decision-making
  • Create instructional materials, including dissection guides, histology slides, handouts, and presentations, aligned with curricular objectives
  • Establish and maintain course goals, objectives, and outcomes for lectures, laboratories, and other learning activities
  • Incorporate cadaver specimens, models, and digital resources to support instruction and assessment
  • Translate anatomical knowledge into clinically relevant concepts to enhance student understanding
  • Collaborate with other LMU-OPCVM faculty to develop integrated, systems-based learning activities
  • Uphold high standards of intellectual integrity and academic excellence in all teaching activities, ensuring that course content is accurate, up-to-date, and relevant
  • Prepare, administer, and grade assessments, in coordination with Academic Affairs staff, that measure student achievement of learning outcomes
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student grades, evaluations, and performance
  • Provide timely, constructive feedback to students to support their academic development and competence
  • Contribute to ongoing curricular assessment and improvement
  • Participate actively in College and University committees, meetings, and assigned initiatives
  • Support the development of institutional, program accreditation, and other required regulatory activities
  • Coordinate with the Anatomy Assistant to oversee anatomical specimens, models, and lab resources, ensuring efficient preparation and support for anatomy teaching and learning
  • Develop and/or engage in research or scholarship in veterinary anatomy or related biomedical sciences that enhances teaching and contributes to new knowledge consistent with OPCVM's mission and research expectations
  • Collaborate with colleagues on interdisciplinary research projects and grant applications
  • Mentor students in scholarly inquiry and research skill development
  • Maintain professional veterinary licensure as appropriate for responsibilities of the role
  • Complete required continuing education as mandated for all OPCVM faculty by the Florida Commission for Independent Education and other relevant licensing, credentialing, or regulatory bodies
  • Demonstrate ongoing commitment to professional growth
  • Foster professional relationships with peers, students, other academic programs, and external stakeholders to advance the College's mission
  • Engage in interprofessional and community-based educational programs that contribute to veterinary medicine and animal health
  • Promote respect for knowledge, inquiry, and academic discourse within the College
  • Perform duties in support of the College's and University's mission and evolving needs
