Assistant/Associate/Professor of Anatomy
Job Description
The DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine at Lincoln Memorial University is seeking an open rank anatomy faculty member to contribute to the Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences and Anatomical Sciences, and PhD in Anatomy Education programs, with other teaching duties in allied health programs and dual enrollment courses as required. The position is a renewable, non-tenure, 12-month appointment based at the satellite location of LMU-DCOM in Knoxville, TN with occasional travel to the main campus in Harrogate, TN. The successful candidate will primarily facilitate large group lectures and small group lab sessions of dissection-based medical gross anatomy in the first-year basic sciences curriculum. Additional teaching in histology, neuroanatomy, and embryology courses as well as in the second-year systems-based curriculum is possible. Researchers in anatomy education, clinical anatomy, biological anthropology, or vertebrate paleontology are especially encouraged to apply to join existing collaborative research teams across campuses. Mentorship of graduate and medical students and participation in department and institutional service is expected. Required Qualifications
- PhD in Anatomical Sciences or related field
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in health professions education utilizing evidence-based pedagogies and strategies to increase student engagement and inclusivity.
- Experience teaching gross anatomy with whole-body donor dissection-based labs.
- Ability/interest to contribute to embryology, histology, and neuroanatomy courses.
- Active research program that can include graduate and medical students.
Job Duties
- Promote the mission of Lincoln Memorial University to all faculty, staff, students and to the community at large;
- promote effective working relationships among faculty, staff and students;
- contribute to the planning, development and evaluation of anatomy laboratory sessions within the DeBusk Osteopathic Medicine (LMU-DCOM);
- assist in the setup and delivery of clinical anatomy workshops with LMU-DCOM;
- promote by precept and example a general atmosphere within the DCOM of respect for knowledge, thought and inquiry;
- maintain intellectual integrity and to strive for academic excellence in his/her teaching;
- promote adequate standards of linguistic expression in writing and speech;
- carry out lecture, seminar, small group discussion and/or clinical assignments and responsibilities effectively;
- help present a course, and/or small group discussions;
- prepare examination questions as well as grade a course or portion of course;
- meet classes according to published schedule;
- commit to working in a multicultural environment that fosters diversity;
- provide service by attending scheduled faculty meetings and by serving on appointed and/or elected committees as required;
- complete required institutional, program accreditation, and other reports necessary for the operation and advancement of University programs, both on campus and at extended campus sites;
- teaching in the Masters of Anatomical Sciences program; and
- perform other duties as assigned.
