Brief Description of Duties
The Department of Computer Science and Information Technology in the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor. We welcome applicants from all areas of computer science and computing-related disciplines, with particular interest in cybersecurity and privacy. We seek candidates who demonstrate excellence in research and teaching and who are strongly committed to diversity, mentoring, and collaboration. The anticipated start date is August 2026.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Faculty duties include:
- Teaching undergraduate and graduate courses
- Conducting high-quality research in collaboration with the department's established teams
- Developing and participating in externally funded research projects
- Performing academic duties, university service, and professional service
- Contributing to the department's pursuit of NSA/DHS National Center of Academic Excellence in Cybersecurity designation and ABET accreditation
Teaching or training experiences in the following areas are essential:
- Malware Analysis and Reverse Engineering
- Ethical Hacking and Penetration Testing
- Digital Forensics and Cyber Investigations
- Cybersecurity Operation and Incident Management
- Cyber-Physical System and Block Chain Security
Additional Responsibilities:
- Teaching cybersecurity tools (SOC tools, Network Security Tools, Vulnerability Assessment Tools, IDS/IPS Tools, Digital Forensics Tools). Applicants should list relevant tool expertise in their application materials. The selected candidate will be invited to demonstrate competency in these areas.
- Assisting in the management and support of the cybersecurity laboratory
Minimum Job Requirements
- Candidates must have a doctoral degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related disciplines with a focus on Cybersecurity. Interested candidates should submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae (with a listing of academic publications), research statement, teaching statement, list of courses taught, and a statement of commitment to advancing equity and fostering an inclusive and diverse community in academia.
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES:
- Candidates must have a doctorate in Computer Science, IT, or a closely related field and a strong record of teaching, research, and scholarly activities commensurate with appointment at the rank of assistant professor.
- Excellent leadership, management, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication, financial management, and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of the best models and practices available to encourage student success. This will require regular research in this area, specific training, as necessary, involvement in relevant forums and conferences, and regular reading of higher education news sources.
- Ability to exercise initiative and creativity in implementing responsibilities.
- Dedication to students, commitment to excellence in creating and providing student support services and ensuring student success.
- Candidates should have a strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate teaching.
- Commitment to working in a collaborative environment with other team members.
- Exceptional interpersonal communication and management skills necessary to promote programs and to sustain strong student enrollment.
