Description of Job Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidate will contribute to the success of the department in the areas of Teaching, Service (advising, committee work, etc.), and Scholarship (supervising Undergraduate/Graduate Student Research) and working with traditional/non-traditional and diverse populations.
Our Applied Biomechanics and Human Performance Laboratories create rich opportunities for interdisciplinary research, undergraduate and graduate student mentorship, and community engagement, making them ideal for faculty seeking to integrate teaching, research, and applied practice. The Applied Biomechanics Lab features an integrated motion capture system with Vicon cameras, force plates, EMG, and wearable IMUs to support advanced human movement analysis in both laboratory and field settings. Complementing this space, the Human Performance Lab includes metabolic testing equipment, Woodway treadmills, Monark bikes, an isokinetic dynamometer, neuromuscular assessment systems, body composition analysis technology, resistance training equipment, and flexible classroom space for instruction and research.
Responsibilities
Teaching:
Primary duties include:
- Teach courses and provide quality academic advising in the undergraduate and graduate exercise science programs.
- Design and deliver instruction (face-to-face, and online as needed) in undergraduate and graduate level courses.
- Provide timely feedback to students.
- Establish student connections in the classroom, lab, and community.
- Prepare and coordinate associated laboratory activities.
Potential courses may include, but are not limited to:
- Anatomy and Physiology
- Exercise Physiology (Undergraduate and Graduate)
- Fitness Assessment
- Biomechanics
- Research Methods and Design
- Graduate Statistics
- Graduate Laboratory Techniques
Service:
- Engage in service at the Department, School, and University levels.
- Participate in student recruitment and retention initiatives for the Department, College, and University.
- Serve as a student-centered advisor both in and out of the classroom.
- Engage in program development that connects students and faculty to the community.
- Contribute to the continuing innovation and development of the exercise science program.
- Engage in assessment and evaluation of the exercise science program.
Scholarship:
- Maintain appropriate scholarly and professional development activity in the field of exercise science.
- Mentor undergraduate and graduate student research.
Minimum Required Education
Doctoral Degree (ABD considered with clear timeline to completion) from an accredited institution in Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, Human Performance, Kinesiology, or related field.
Required Licenses and/or Certifications N/A
Minimum Required Qualifications
- Experience teaching at the College/University level.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Experience in research and scholarly activities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Evidence of effective classroom and laboratory teaching in higher education.
- Evidence of external certifications such as ACSM and/or NSCA.
- Experience teaching using a learning management system (LMS) (e.g., Blackboard).
- Demonstrated experience in grant writing.
- Experience in academic advising.
- Experience in utilizing technology and equipment in the field of exercise science.
