Assistant/Associate Professor of Experimental Inorganic Chemistry

The Department of Chemistry, Physics, and Atmospheric Sciences (CPAS) at Jackson State University, within the College of Science, Engineering, and Technology, invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Experimental Inorganic Chemistry. Our goal is to fill this position as soon as possible. While the primary focus is Experimental Inorganic Chemistry, applicants from related areas of chemistry, including Physical Chemistry, Materials Chemistry, Nanomaterials, Quantum Materials, Analytical Chemistry, Nanochemistry, Biochemistry, Computational Chemistry, and Solid-State Chemistry, are strongly encouraged to apply.
The successful candidate will be expected to establish and sustain a vigorous, externally funded research program. Candidates are also encouraged to engage undergraduate and graduate students in meaningful research experiences while contributing to the department’s mission of preparing students for careers in chemistry and related research fields. The successful candidate will also demonstrate excellence in teaching and mentoring at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Responsibilities include:
- Developing an independent, externally funded research program,
- Maintain a productive research program, including securing external funding and publishing results in peer-reviewed journals,
- Teaching undergraduate and graduate chemistry courses,
- Mentoring undergraduate and graduate students in research,
- Advise undergraduate and graduate students,
- Serve on departmental and college committees,
- The role also involves contributing to departmental, university, and professional service, as well as,
- Supporting outreach, recruitment, and student success initiatives,
- Perform other duties within the range of skills typically associated with a position of this classification in an evolving teaching and learning environment.
Required Qualifications:
- A Ph.D. in chemistry or a closely related field is required,
- The candidate must also have postdoctoral research experience that demonstrates the potential to establish an externally funded research program,
- The candidate should demonstrate excellence in teaching and mentoring a diverse student population,
- Possess strong oral and written communication skills.
