Assistant/Associate Professor of Finance (Tenure-Track) - John Chambers College of Business & Economics

Description

The Department of Finance at John Chambers College of Business & Economics, West Virginia University, invites qualified applicants for a tenure-track position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level to teach courses in the department's Risk Management and Insurance program. Candidates hired at the rank of associate professor will be considered for the position of Ernest L. Hogan Chair of Life Insurance. This is a full-time, 9-month, benefits-eligible appointment with an anticipated start date in Fall 2027, with the possibility of a Spring 2027 start date.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Teach courses at the undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral levels focused primarily on insurance-related topics but will include other topics in finance and related disciplines.
  • Develop and implement innovative teaching methods to enhance student engagement and learning outcomes.
  • Supervise and mentor doctoral students, including serving on dissertation committees.
  • Develop a strong research program with the potential to publish in high-quality academic journals.
  • Maintain an active research pipeline that contributes to the advancement of the field of Finance.
  • Actively contribute to departmental, college, and university service initiatives, especially those related to the Risk Management and Insurance area.
  • Engage in program development, student mentoring, and other academic activities that support the institution's mission.

Qualifications

  • A Ph.D. in Finance or a closely related field (e.g., Economics) is required.
  • Possess a strong research pipeline and demonstrate potential to publish in high-quality academic journals. Candidates at the Associate Professor level must have a track record of high-level research published in well-regarded journals.
  • A teaching record that demonstrates excellence in the classroom.
  • A strong commitment to service and engagement in academic and professional communities.
  • All qualifications must be met by the time of appointment.
