Assistant/Associate Professor of Theatre (Design)
Centre College invites applications for a tenure-track position as Assistant or Associate Professor of Theatre beginning in August 2026. Candidates must have an MFA or Ph.D. in Theatre by the time of appointment. Centre College is seeking a dynamic theatre designer with a specialty in lighting and scenic design who can teach broadly across all areas of design (lighting, scenic, sound, costumes, projections). This position would serve as the design faculty for a small theatre program with a liberal arts mission. Classes taught would include:
- Intro to Tech Theatre
- Intro to Design
- Lighting, Sound, & Projection Design
- Scenic & Costume Design
- Stage Management
- C.A.D.D. for the Stage
- Script Analysis
- Other courses as appropriate, including general education classes focused on teaching writing, public speaking, or collaboration.
This position designs at least one element for each of the three shows in our season and serves as instructor of record for all sections of design practicum. As part of the practicum, this position will mentor student designers and guide student crews in collaboration with the Technical Director and Costume Shop Supervisor. They will also coordinate use of spaces and general technical needs with these staff members and the technical leadership of the Norton Center for the Arts.
