Job Summary

The University of Texas at Tyler invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position (Assistant or Associate Professor) in the Department of Kinesiology in the primary area of exercise metabolism or nutrition. Review of applications will start November 3rd , 2025. The applications received by then will be guaranteed full review. Key Responsibilities
  • Teach and mentor undergraduate and graduate students in exercise science, nutrition and related areas
  • Engage in research
  • Serve the University, profession and community; and be a collegial member of the Department.
  • This position will contribute to a new undergraduate minor/concentration area in nutrition to be offered by the Department of Kinesiology beginning fall 2026.
  • Maintain regular on-campus presence.
  • Attend departmental meetings.
Required Qualifications
  • Terminal degree in exercise science, kinesiology, or nutrition with emphasis in metabolism; excellent written and oral communication skills; excellent interpersonal skills; and willingness and ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively with departmental colleagues, faculty and other professionals in other disciplines both within and outside of UT Tyler.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Post-doctoral experience preferred; experience with college-level teaching and scholarly writing; teaching in distance education format (hybrid, online); high potential for independent research and external funding of research; experience with statistical analysis and grant-writing.

The Department of Kinesiology, within the School Health Professions, serves approximately 400 students in two undergraduate programs (B.S.-Kinesiology, B.A.-Wellness) and one Master's program (M.S.-Kinesiology with online option). The Department is housed in the Jean Lancaster Academic Wing of the Herrington Patriot Center. The University of Texas at Tyler is an academic component of The University of Texas System and offers more than 80 undergraduate and graduate degree programs to approximately 10,000 students. UT Tyler's main campus is located on 206 acres in pine and hardwood forests of beautiful East Texas. Additional campuses are in Longview and Palestine.

Additional Information

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.

This position is security-sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code Section 51.215, which authorizes the employer to obtain criminal history record information. Applicants selected must be able to show proof of eligibility to work in the United States by time of hire.
