Position Summary:
Assist with coaching intercollegiate Men’s and Women’s Track & Field and Cross Country by instructing team concepts and position skills and promoting safety matters during practices and during competition; assist with organizing and conducting practice sessions. Encourage and promote excellence in academics and life-skills to student athletes. Must possess a strong commitment and ability to motivate, teach, counsel, and recruit academically qualified student-athletes. Abide by all UNC, ACC and NCAA regulations.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Minimum of a bachelor’s degree required (or foreign degree equivalent) with at least 1 year of experience in relevant independent instructional or educational activities; specific minimum experience is at the discretion of the Director of Athletics.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:
Minimum one year track and field/cross country coaching and recruiting experience at the collegiate level. Understanding of NCAA rules and current recruiting trends are both critical components of the position. Strong interpersonal communications skills, integrity, leadership, and a thorough knowledge of the sport are required. Valid NC Driver’s license required.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:
NCAA competition experience preferred. Knowledge of and experience in an athletics environment helpful, as is knowledge of department and University policies and procedures.
Special Physical/Mental Requirements:
May be required to lift/move 25 lbs or greater. May be required to navigate stairs. Must be able to manage a fast-paced, high volume work environment. Attention to detail essential. Weekend, night and weekend work as required. Must be able to travel. May be exposed to extreme weather conditions.
Campus Security Authority Responsibilities:
This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities.
