Job Summary:
The Department of Theatre and Dance at Rollins College invites applications for a Part-Time Assistant Costume Studio Manager. This position supports the daily operations of the costume shop and assists with costume production for theatre and dance performances in the Annie Russel Theatre, Tiedtke Theatre and Dance Centre, and other departmental venues. The Assistant Costume Studio Manager also contributes to student learning by supporting hands-on training in costume construction, wardrobe practices, and costume management.
Primary Responsibilities
- Assist in the daily operation of the costume shop, including costume construction, alterations, repairs, and maintenance.
- Support costume fittings, organization, labeling, and preparation for rehearsals and performances.
- Maintain costume inventory, storage systems, and shop workspaces.
- Assist faculty designers, student designers, and guest artists with costume builds and technical rehearsals.
- Support costume needs for theatre productions, dance concerts, and student-directed performances.
- Provide guidance and support to student workers or interns in costume shop practices and equipment use.
- Coordinate costume loans and returns for departmental productions, classes, and special events.
- Assist with costume displays, installations, and outreach events utilizing the department's costume collection.
Minimum Qualifications & Education:
- Experience in costume construction, alterations, and wardrobe practices.
- Proficiency with sewing machines and standard costume shop tools.
- Strong organizational, communication, and collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Costume Design, Theatre Production, Fashion, or related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Experience working in an academic theatre environment.
- Experience mentoring or supervising student workers.
- Knowledge of costume inventory systems and collection management.
Work Hours & Compensation:
- Work Hours: The Assistant Costume Studio Manager role is a 9-month appointment (mid August-mid May), approximately 24 hours per week, for a total of less than 1,000 hours per year.
- Schedule will be discussed during interview process.
- Flexible schedules or overtime (including evenings and weekends) may be required to meet the demands of the academic calendars.
- Anticipated start date will be mid-August
- Compensation: Rollins offers a competitive hourly rate and there are no benefits associated with these positions.
Work Environment:
- This is a campus-based position working in Winter Park, FL.
- Front-facing customer service position.
