Johns Hopkins, founded in 1876, is America's first research university and home to nine world-class academic divisions working together as one university.
We are seeking an Assistant Director, Employer Partnerships and Experiential Learning who will lead the creation of a public purpose experiential learning pathway for doctoral students and postdoctoral fellows. The pathway connects experiential learning opportunities such as internships, research experiences, community-based engagements, project-based engagements, and on-campus roles into a route that builds the skills and readiness for careers in nonprofits, government, and other…
community-based organizations. The role will support the broader work of the experiential learning team and the Doctoral Life Design Studio, providing 1:1 support and workshops for doctoral students and postdocs and partnering on signature events.
Life Design at Hopkins goes beyond traditional career development. It is an integrative process that nurtures curiosity, fosters growth, and opens doors to new opportunities. The Doctoral Life Design Studio is part of the Department of Integrative Learning and Life Design (ILLD), a Johns Hopkins division that empowers every learner — from undergraduates to postdoctoral fellows — to purposefully design meaningful futures, bridging curricular and experiential learning with personal ambitions across the university’s nine schools.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
- Define the scope, entry points, and stages of the public purpose pathway for doctoral students and postdoctoral fellows, and what it is designed to produce.
- Build on and integrate the experiential learning opportunities that make up the pathway, drawing on existing offerings including Hopkins Doctoral Consulting Projects, Career360, internships, relevant career education offerings, and DLDS signature events, and adding new opportunities where gaps exist.

- Oversee the overall program management, marketing, recruiting, and evaluation for the public purpose pathway.
- Provide one-on-one and group-based coaching and workshops with a focus on resume writing, interviewing, job searching, and networking.
- Represent the office at orientation programs and other student and postdoc engagement events.
- Assist in processing employer invoices and student payments, ensuring accuracy and compliance with institutional financial policies.
- Administer experiential learning surveys for organizations and students, analyze feedback, and implement program improvements based on key insights.
- Gather, analyze, and share data and insights related to employer engagement, experiential learning, events, student participation, hiring rates, and overall program effectiveness.
- Manage tracking, documentation, and secure storage of student and employer agreements, ensuring compliance with institutional policies and legal requirements.
- Collaborate with the team and broader division on employer events.
- Contribute to team-wide programming and initiatives, including signature event planning and execution.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Experience designing programs, learning experiences, or student or professional development initiatives, ideally in a higher education or workforce development setting.
- The ideal candidate will have a background in talent acquisition/recruiting, partnership development, development and alumni engagement, or other similar functions.
- Experience coordinating programs, managing logistics, or supporting student/employer engagement initiatives.
- Proactive and solution-oriented, with the ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team.
- Experience leading outreach and relationship development initiatives, including prospecting/sourcing, cold emailing, and running pitch meetings.
- Experience engaging leadership-level prospects preferred.
- Experience negotiating contracts or offers of employment preferred.
- Proven ability to engage and strengthen relationships with key internal stakeholders, ensuring sustained collaboration and growth.
- Experience with customer relationship management or application tracking systems preferred.
- Experience with Qualtrics, Airtable, and Canva preferred.

- Demonstrated ability to think creatively and adapt to evolving needs and opportunities.
- Collaborative and results-driven mindset, with a focus on delivering high-quality, high-impact initiatives.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to assess program effectiveness and inform strategic decisions.
- Comfort using digital platforms and social media (e.g., LinkedIn, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram) to enhance engagement.
