Supervision Received: Reports to the Executive Director of Athletics.
Supervision Exercised: Staff Assistant Manager, Intramural Coordinator, Club Sports Coordinator, Fitness Trainers, Service Desk Attendants, Lifeguards, Aerobics Coordinator, Aerobics Instructors, users of facilities and equipment maintainers associated with the fitness center, assessment room, aerobic room, swimming pool and Parenzo Gymnasium
Salary: $75,000.00-$79,500.00 (Salary to commensurate with education and experience)
General Statement of Duties:
Provide coverage for operations of the fitness center, aerobics program, swimming pool and Parenzo Gymnasium. Responsibilities include organization, supervision and scheduling of all services, programs, staff and users of facilities
Duties and Responsibilities:

Essential:
- Assist in the ongoing development and implementation of Unit Strategic Plan.
- Manage budget as assigned.
- Manage day-to-day operations including, but not limited to, staff scheduling, training, supervision and evaluation.
- Ensure proper supervision of facilities, equipment and people in attendance during established hours of operation.
- Manage inventory control and purchase equipment and supplies on an as needed basis.
- Implementation and enforcement of regulations and operating procedures for general health and safety, staff training and scheduling, and use of facilities and equipment.
- Oversee Graded Exercise Testing and other approved fitness testing for members of the University community subject to approved guidelines.
- Oversee fitness training programs for individual members of the University community in conformance with approved guidelines.
- Implement programs to promote health and fitness with the University's community.
- Conduct ongoing assessments and periodic evaluations of personnel, programs, services, equipment and facilities.
- Supervise routine and periodic maintenance and repair of facilities and equipment to ensure safety and proper condition of equipment.
- Collaborate with other University units to promote health and fitness programming.
- Design and implement training protocols and motivational strategies for all staff.
- Coordinate indoor cycling program including recruiting, training and supervising all instructors.
- Provide supervision of SMHP student intern and students doing observation hours.
- Coordinate aerobic programs including hiring, training, scheduling and evaluating each Instructor.
Non-Essential:
- Keep accurate records related to staff scheduling; equipment inventory, maintenance, and repair; services and programs offered; and use of facilities.
- Work with appropriate University, faculty, staff and students to publicize health and fitness related services and programs.
- Adhere to Westfield State University Policies and Procedures and all standards and guidelines set forth by the Division of Student affairs.
- Perform other duties of a related nature as assigned by the Director of Athletics.
Job Requirements:
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree
- A minimum of three years working in a university/college athletics/recreation department or related field
- First Aid, CPR and AED Certification
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights and weekends.
- Experience in training, supervising and evaluating staff in applicable aspects recreation & fitness safety and supervision
- Proven ability to work effectively with supervisors, practitioners, subordinates, and vendors in previous work settings
- Experience in maintenance and repair of health and fitness facility equipment
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree
- ACSM, NASM, ACE or equivalent certification

Salaries for current Westfield State University employees and individuals currently working for the state of Massachusetts must be calculated individually in accordance with collective bargaining agreements as well as state policies.
