Assistant Director for Outreach and Prevention, Counseling and Mental Health Clinical Instructor/Clinical Assistant of Psychiatry and the Behavioral Sciences (Clinician Educator)

Position Description

The Assistant Director of Outreach and Prevention is responsible for high-level development, oversight, and coordination of University-wide outreach and prevention efforts. The ideal candidate is a licensed clinician (PsyD, PhD, LCSW, LMFT, LPCC) with experience in designing and implementing outreach programming for diverse audiences, including transitional age youth. Candidates should have excellent clinical, supervisorial, and public speaking skills, and demonstrate a commitment to social justice, multicultural competence, and student wellbeing.

This is a full-time faculty position with an academic appointment in the Department of Psychiatry, located on USC's University Park Campus. Salary ranges from $105,000 to $145,000, contingent on experience. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, retirement contributions, tuition assistance, and paid time off. The position involves a blend of onsite and remote work, with a majority in-person.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  • Report to the Director of CMH and serve on the CMH Directors Team.
  • Serve as 'Director of the Day' one day per week and participate in backup call rotation.
  • Develop and supervise University-wide outreach and prevention activities, including health communications.
  • Collaborate with USC Student Health Communications on mental health campaigns.
  • Provide training on effective outreach and prevention practices.
  • Supervise CMH's Multicultural Coordinator and faculty in Student Equity and Inclusion Programs.
  • Supervise clinical activities of generalist faculty clinicians and hire Graduate Assistants.
  • Conduct seminars and training for interns and trainees.
  • Create programming focused on community engagement, social justice, DEI, and wellbeing.
  • Oversee outreach requests and conduct outreaches on campus.
  • Serve on university committees and collaborate with campus partners.
  • Coordinate CMH postvention response and serve as lead for The Jed Foundation initiatives.
  • Maintain a clinical schedule for client appointments and consultations.
  • Attend leadership meetings and participate in professional associations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's or higher degree in social work, marriage & family therapy, counseling, psychology, or related field.
  • Licensed in California.
  • 1-2 years supervising clinicians and trainees.
  • 2-3 years overseeing college outreach programming.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and multicultural competency.
  • Experience with issues in early adulthood.
  • Excellent communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in short-term treatment and crisis intervention.
  • Work with university students or transitional age youth.
  • Experience in program evaluation and quality improvement.
  • Ability to work in a diverse, multicultural environment.
  • Commitment to ethical practice and professional growth.
  • Additional language skills welcome.
