Job Summary

Under the supervision of the associate vice president, the Assistant Director of Marketing and Communications will advance Columbus State’s mission through strategic, creative, and integrated marketing communications to support enrollment growth and student success, strengthen brand presence, and cultivate a community of engaged and proud supporters. The ideal candidate is a compelling storyteller and strategic marketer who thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.

Strategic Leadership

  • Working with the Associate Vice President, develops and implements marketing strategies and tactics to carry out the college's marketing plan.
  • Develops and executes marketing strategies to drive enrollment and student success and elevate brand awareness and positive perceptions of the college among key stakeholders.
  • Works with creative team to plan, produce, and deploy smart, joyful, pride-evoking, relevant content across media to inspire and motivate the many stakeholders the College serves.
  • Serves as the primary contact on marketing projects processed through the department.
  • Ensures projects align with overall college plans and objectives. Determines and assigns work priorities for direct reports based on project scope. Reviews work production, monitors project budgets, and ensures timely delivery.

Marketing & Creative Leadership

  • Crafts and manages compelling content across a wide range of communication tools, including email, direct mail, social media, paid media, text messaging, web and digital channels, print collateral, etc.
  • Ensures consistent and effective use of the brand across all platforms. Leads production of content, coordinating and implementing organic and paid campaigns across media including prospect outreach, enrollment funnel communications, and event promotions.
  • Uses market research and trends to identify and develop effective advertising strategies through various media channels and platforms.
  • Develops campaign concepts, writes and works with videographers, photographers, designers, and other members of the creative team to execute and optimize campaigns.
  • Implements campaigns that maximize return on investment and meet established goals. Collects and analyzes data from campaign efforts to strategically plan for future marketing efforts.
  • Implements internal and external recruitment and retention advertising strategies to increase student enrollment, retention, and success.
  • Ensures quality production, timeliness, and accuracy. Consults with clients prior to and during production to ensure consistency of goals and cost-effectiveness.
  • Provides art direction in collaboration with Senior Graphic Designer. Coordinates photo shoot requests.
  • Works closely with the college photographer, videographer, web and graphic designers, and contractors to ensure quality, consistency of imagery, and brand standards.

Operational Leadership

  • Supervises direct reports in performance of job duties and responsibilities. Assigns and delegates tasks, provides direction, resolves work problems, communicates job expectations, trains employees and creates professional growth development opportunities.
  • Carries out, explains, interprets and enforces policy. Conducts annual employee evaluations, and recommends pay increases, promotions and other personnel actions.
  • Approves leave and authorizes overtime as appropriate. Participates in employee selection process. Administers disciplinary actions upon approval, and in collaboration with Human Resources. Serves on cross-functional College committees for special projects.
  • Recommends departmental policy and process changes accordingly. Assists as required in monitoring and compliance with department budget.

Collaboration

  • Coordinates with Admissions, K-12 Partnerships, Advancement, Talent Strategy, and other college partners to ensure cohesive messaging, brand alignment, and effective marketing tactics.
  • Fosters a culture of collaboration, mutual respect, innovation, and continuous improvement throughout the assigned unit, department, and division. Leads by example, actively participating in and support College-wide shared governance components and activities and other collaborative processes.
  • Encourages professional excellence among assigned staff. Promotes, fosters, and facilitates an organizational culture of customer service, teamwork, and innovation.
  • Participates actively in the life of the College, including operational processes and initiatives, by serving on College committees, workgroups, task forces, and councils as assigned. Remains relevant in the marketing and communication field and keep up on advancements in technology and ethics.

Additional Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Manages multiple assignments of varying complexity and meets tight timelines and deadlines with the ability to adapt to changing needs of the College and business partners.
  • Ensures College name and image is perceived positively by external as well as internal audience/stakeholders.
  • Hours may include working outside of a normal workweek schedule as needed to meet workload demands.

Minimum Education And Experience Required

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field.
  • Two (2) years of demonstrated successful experience in marketing and branding efforts including emerging and traditional media required. An appropriate combination of education, training, coursework and experience may qualify a candidate.
