Communications Specialist (Mansfield Campus)
The Ohio State University invites applications for the position of Communications Specialist on the Mansfield campus. The individual in this position is responsible for activating marketing and communications strategies for the Mansfield campus. Leveraging a deep understanding of the campus primary audiences, this individual will help develop and implement marketing and communications campaigns that align with business objectives, positioning the Mansfield campus as a quality pathway to an Ohio State degree and a valuable community partner.
Key Responsibilities
- Brand Stewardship, Marketing & Communications Strategy
- Activate campus marketing and communications strategies aligned with university and campus goals and The Ohio State University brand
- Identify key messages, proof points, and themes for priority audiences
- Manage the Mansfield campus marketing and communications budget
- Content & Channel Management
- Lead day-to-day management of communication channels, including website and social media
- Ensure the Mansfield campus website is accurate, current, and strategically managed
- Develop and oversee compelling written and multimedia content to support enrollment, advancement, internal communications, faculty scholarship, and community engagement
- Campaign Development
- Plan and execute multi-channel marketing campaigns to support enrollment, alumni, donor, and community engagement
- Oversee development and evaluation of marketing materials, including brochures, advertising, event materials, invitations, and publications
- Conduct cost/benefit analyses to assess marketing effectiveness
- Media & Public Relations
- Manage media relationships and inquiries
- Proactively pitch stories and thought leadership opportunities to internal and external media partners
- Coordinate interviews and identify campus subject-matter experts
- Manage campus newsroom content, including internal news stories, external media coverage, and promotion of faculty research
- Collaboration & Project Management
- Build, maintain and serve as trusted marketing partner across the Mansfield campus, Columbus campus, and community
- Prioritize and manage multiple projects using a strategic, audience-centered approach
- Provide copyediting and proofreading support to campus partners
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in English, Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or related field of study or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- 3+ years of strategic marketing and communications experience, or the equivalent
- Demonstrated superior organizational, writing, and editing skills
- Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to excellence in work
- Professional demeanor and ability to build collaborative working relationships
- Ability to think creatively and strategically, while being detail and deadline-oriented with project management from ideation through implementation
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong understanding of persuasive writing techniques
- Ability to maintain composure in a fast-paced work environment
- Experience in digital marketing, including responsibility for email, social media and web channels
- Agency experience, including management of agency and freelancer relationships
- Higher education experience is a plus
This position is located at the Mansfield campus in Mansfield, Ohio and the target hiring range is $51,500.00 - $67,250.00 annually.
