Position Summary
The Assistant Director of ACA & Transfer Success reports to the Dean of General Education and Transfer and serves as the primary person responsible for all Discipline Chair responsibilities for ACA-prefix courses across the College, as well as for providing administrative and programming leadership for transfer agreements, opportunities, employee trainings, and resources across the College.
The Assistant Director directly supervises all ACA faculty and part-time transfer staff. The Assistant Director will serve as the Discipline Chair over ACA-prefix courses and serves as the primary representative of their respective content area. They are responsible for direct supervision of lead, full-time and part-time faculty in their respective area.
The Assistant Director will oversee and lead the implementation of the new transfer intent tagging process through ACA 122 courses and will support college partners with the new process. They will help maintain and improve the transfer intent tagging process over time in order to best serve transfer students. They are responsible for scheduling courses in collaboration with Program Chairs across the college to serve various programmatic and student needs. The Assistant Director will ensure that Transfer and Technical Programs across the college are served by ACA courses, and they are responsible for hiring, credentialing, and staffing all ACA faculty. The Assistant Director is responsible for training all ACA faculty and college transfer staff on a continuous basis to ensure that faculty and staff are up-to-date on the most recent transfer and career content. The Assistant Director will complete faculty observations and evaluations per College policy and procedure. The Assistant Director is responsible for the expansion of ACA courses across the College as advised by the Dean of General Education & Transfer and the Academic Vice President.
The Assistant Director will also take a lead role in implementing the Faculty Mentoring program as directed by the Dean of General Education & Transfer. Faculty Mentor responsibilities may include, but may not be limited to, the following: conducting regular reviews of assignments, collaborating with the Registrar to ensure that assignments are updated, creating an updated guidebook, providing training to new faculty mentors, and by entering assignments into Banner as needed.
In the Transfer Success capacity, the Assistant Director is expected to be actively involved with the colleges university partners, as well as with the colleges local high school career and college promise programs. They are expected to serve as one of the primary sources of transfer information and training for the College and its employees, in collaboration with the Dean of General Education & Transfer. They are expected to have strong knowledge of the NC Comprehensive Articulation Agreement, Transfer Guides, Uniform Articulation Agreements, local/state bilateral articulation, and be familiar with guaranteed and co-admission programs. They are expected to be knowledgeable of public and independent four-year institutions across the state. With this knowledge they will help keep agreements current and relevant and provide resources and opportunities for students and employees pertaining to transfer success topics. The Assistant Director is responsible for transfer programming that may include, but may not be limited to, the University Mentoring Program, ongoing transfer training for employees, organizing program-specific transfer events, supporting transfer fairs as needed in collaboration with Student Services, and serving as the primary person responsible Guaranteed Admissions Programs (GAP) that the College participates in, including but not limited to: overseeing the GAP programs, connecting participating students with advisors and faculty mentors, and completing verification processes. The Assistant Director is responsible for maintaining current transfer data from the UNC System and NCICU institutions on all College web and print locations, and for providing ongoing training to employees working with transfer students.
Required Education/Experience
- The candidate must hold a graduate degree from a recognized accredited institution, must be supportive of the community college mission, and will be enthusiastic about college transfer.
Preferred Education/Experience/Skills
- The ideal candidate would be familiar with all transfer programs in the North Carolina Community College System, including CAA (policy level), uniform, and bilateral. They would be familiar with ACA-prefix courses, especially ACA 122, and would have experience teaching at the community college level.
- Experience supporting transfer students and experience in the innovation, development and deployment of transfer and university partnerships at the local, regional, and state levels.
- Expertise in all levels of transfer including CAA (policy level), uniform, and bilateral
- Knowledge of college teaching (faculty role) as well as experience advising students.

Duty and Responsibility
- Schedule classes according to the programs progression plan and Colleges scheduling pattern (unless otherwise approved), and in consideration of student needs and campus locations.
- Assign faculty to sections, in accordance with College credentialing and scheduling processes.
- Conduct program planning and assessment, which includes annual planning and program review deliverables.
- Develop and manage discipline budget(s) and purchases in cooperation with the Dean.
- Participate in the selection, orientation, and mentoring of FT and/or PT faculty members, in accordance with College processes and requirements.
- Monitor the performance of faculty members. Activities include but are not limited to conducting performance evaluations, classroom observations, and course reviews (as applicable), and reviewing the Student Evaluation of Instruction survey results.
- In accordance with College guidelines, take appropriate action to address and resolve any faculty or student issues that arise.
- Process faculty requests, forms, reports, etc., as applicable.
- Coordinate faculty substitutions due to instructor absence.
- Coordinate and conduct faculty meetings.
- Make recommendations for curriculum revisions, textbook adoptions and other course materials, library acquisitions, and new course offerings.
- Update and maintain course-specific content within program syllabi templates and course templates (within the Colleges learning management system); Monitor and/or approve faculty edits to syllabus and course content, as applicable.
- Attend and participate in the annual graduation ceremony.
- Facilitate strategic planning and supervise the preparation of the College educational master plan for areas of responsibility.
- Develop and evaluate department goals and objectives.
- Plan, develop, and implement innovative approaches to support ACA, transfer and articulation.
- Facilitate college improvement with the NCCCS Transfer Success performance measure.
- Plan, develop, and implement innovative partnerships to foster relationships with public and independent colleges and universities.
- Train faculty in the Faculty Mentor model in support of transfer advising, academic success, and state transfer policy.
- Inform and train college personnel in statewide transfer topics and processes.
- Recommend initiatives to promote student success and continuous improvement.
- Establish and maintain positive relationships with other divisions, departments, external agencies, and peer institutions.
- Represent the College on 4yr campuses.
- Administer processes for collection of data pertaining to transfer success, transfer admissions programs, and other relevant areas associated with transfer.
- Organize and conduct meetings in support of transfer and mentoring.
- Recommend and implement policies and procedures.
- Review, prepare and implement the discipline budget.
- Assure compliance with the colleges policies and procedures.
- Other duties as assigned by the Dean of General Education & Transfer.
