Assistant Director of Student Involvement
Ohio Wesleyan University, a selective, private, undergraduate liberal arts, residential institution founded in 1842 and located just 20 miles north of Columbus, is seeking candidates for the Assistant Director of Student Involvement. This is a salaried, full-time position with benefits.
ABOUT THE STUDENT INVOLVEMENT OFFICE
The Student Involvement Office (SIO) serves as the hub for student organizations, fraternity and sorority life, campus programs, and leadership development. The SIO is dedicated to helping students create a meaningful campus experience and build a community of support through campus involvement.
JOB SUMMARY
The Assistant Director of Student Involvement provides strategic leadership and administrative oversight for all registered student organizations, fraternities, and sororities. The position applies student development theory and frameworks to advise, coordinate, and collaborate with students, staff, and advisors to enrich the OWU experience. This role includes building meaningful connections, ensuring students have the resources to lead effectively, and fostering a community centered on inclusion and equity.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Advise, manage, and support fraternity and sorority governing councils.
- Advise and communicate regularly with fraternity and sorority chapter presidents, other chapter leaders, faculty and staff advisors, alumni advisors, and headquarter staff and volunteers.
- Coordinate and manage membership recruitment and intake process.
- Maintain accurate fraternity and sorority records including membership, academics, and governing council records.
- Provide support for campus registered student organizations (RSOs) by managing the new club process, event registration, advisor education, contract oversight and policy assistance.
- Develop and facilitate leadership education training including but not limited to university policies and procedures, officer transitions, risk management, and diversity, equity and inclusion.
- Oversee and manage the RSO purchasing process and supervise student purchasing coordinators.
- Assist with office administrative responsibilities which may include, but not limited to assessment initiatives, office management, and attending campus training.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position includes evening and weekend hours.
FACTORS CONTRIBUTING TO SUCCESS:
- Bachelor’s degree required and master’s degree in higher education administration, student personnel, or closely related field strongly preferred.
- Experience directly advising fraternities and sororities within a higher education setting.
- Knowledge of and a working understanding of current best practices in fraternity and sorority life, risk management and the structure of NIC, NPHC, and NPC organizations.
- Administrative experience with student organization registration, training, and leadership development.
- Demonstrated commitment to inclusion and equity within a diverse organization, team, and campus community.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
