Assistant Director, Office of Strategic Initiatives
The Assistant Director will review and analyze data. The Assistant Director will create reports, dashboards, and presentations for stakeholders and/or leadership and utilize findings to aid in decision-making.
The Assistant Director reports to the Director of Strategic Initiatives in the Office of Strategic Initiatives (OSI) and requires a detail-oriented professional who is responsible for the interpretation, analysis, and user-friendly reporting of complex data related to financial aid and admissions. The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational and communication skills, with a passion for data analytics and higher education.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
- Collect and analyze quantitative and qualitative data in accordance with applicable privacy laws such as FERPA/HIPAA.
- Communicate findings compellingly and visually through dashboards, reports, briefing decks, stories, scorecards, executive briefings, etc. for different audiences using solutions like Power BI and Tableau. Proofread and edit reports and other products to attain consistency of format.
- Regular outreach to offices to learn about upcoming surveys scheduled; maintain up to date documentation.
- Assist with the development of a detailed communication strategy and plan for the office/assigned area.
- Maintain office website and produce materials in coordination with the divisional communications team.
In addition to the duties described above, the Assistant Director will:
- Perform analysis, monitoring, and interpretation of admissions and financial aid metrics across all academic divisions and programs.
- Synthesize findings in routine reporting for internal and external audiences with the ability to communicate results across all levels of the organization, including senior leadership.
- Identify historical norms and trends and communicate findings in easily digestible language for a wide variety of internal and external audiences.
- Resolve any identified issues by working with departmental/divisional contacts and prepare written analysis of resolutions.
- Familiarity with formal and informal divisional goals, standards, policies and procedures, as they relate to financial aid and admissions.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree.
- Three years of related experience, with at least 1 year of experience in data analytics.
- Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education permitted by the JHU equivalency formula beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in data science, business administration, accounting, or related field
- Ability to synthesize data in a user-friendly format for a variety of audiences.
- Availability outside of traditional work hours, primarily in a remote setting
- Interpersonal skills to effectively interface with key stakeholders, including senior leadership and principal donors.
- Due to access to confidential information, individual must be discreet and protect that information.
- Ability to balance multiple tasks simultaneously and adapt to a rapidly changing work environment.
- Excellent communicator, both written and oral.
- Ability to interpret complex data sets.
- Knowledge of project management.
- Ability to problem-solve creatively and analyze processes and systems in a fast paced and complex environment.
- Advanced written and verbal communications skills necessary to gather and exchange data (both externally and internally).
- Highly proficient administrative skills, including use of word processing, database, spreadsheet, and desktop publishing software.
- Knowledge of university admissions and financial aid practices highly desirable.
- Experience with large-scale research projects and data-driven initiatives, preferably within an educational setting.
- Experience with statistical analysis and data analytics software/tools.
- Previous experience working in a university environment.
- Knowledge of current trends and best practices in data analytics education.
