Position Summary

The Assistant Director of the Gender & Sexuality Resource Center (GSRC) is responsible for the centers’ daily operations, programs, programming, and student support services as related to the goals and mission of the Diversity Affairs Division and Fort Lewis College.

Job Description

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and direct daily operations of the GSRC to ensure open access for FLC students during operating hours and additional time periods as necessary.
  • Direct and implement GSRC focused programs and programming (e.g., academic, cultural, and enrichment) to ensure community connection and belonging, ensure academic success, increase student retention and pathways to graduation.
  • Ensure resources (computers, event supplies, etc.) are available through the GSRC and proper maintenance occurs throughout the year.
  • Coordinate administrative processes to ensure implementation of the GSRC programs and programming is in place, in accordance with college policies, procedures and strategic plan.
  • Manage center budget accounts, foundation accounts, and ensure college funding follows college accounting policies and procedures.
  • Manage various funding sources for student success including scholarships, emergency funds, and more.
  • Collaborate with Advancement and foundation to continue fund growth, grant writing, and any financial opportunities available to the Diversity Affairs Department.
  • Supervise and manage GSRC purchasing tracking, submit monthly purchasing card statements with receipts, and utilize college Purchasing Card in accordance with Student Affairs processes and college policies.
  • Hire, mentor, and supervise student employees and interns (student staff of 8-12 work study and non-work study students, student interns); hire, schedule, oversee day to day operations, provide regular feedback and evaluations for student employees, schedule retreats and trainings for students, and perform other supervisory duties as needed.
  • Offer support for Registered Student Organizations (RSOs) and other student groups affiliated with the GSRC, interpret and administer college policies and procedures and assist with event planning and collaboration.
  • Implement and coordinate marketing of the GSRC programs and programming across campus via posters, newsletters, announcements and social media accounts.
  • Maintain and update the GSRC website including updated promotional materials in consultation with Marketing & Communications.
  • Direct GSRC assessment initiatives, connecting center outcomes to divisional and institutional goals and managing the development of assessment and evaluation tools for programs and services.
  • Create, develop, and foster collaborative, inclusive partnerships with college offices and departments to provide top quality co-curricular involvement experiences for LGBTQIA2S+ students.
  • Create, develop, and foster collaborative, inclusive partnerships with off campus partners to provide top quality community engagement with the broader 4-corners area.
  • Support campus and national committee and policy work that relates to the GSRC including but not limited to; LGBTQIA2S+ Advisory Committee, Campus Pride Index, etc.
  • Supervise and direct relevant training for the campus community as aligned with the GSRC.
  • Maintain a database on training provided and produce yearly assessment of program validity.
  • Assist the Director of Belonging with the development, implementation, and assessment of pertinent and relevant DEI training for the campus community.
  • Collaborate with community partners that serve the LGBTQIA2S+ community to provide resources and access to healthcare needs relevant to students.
  • Serve as consultant and thought partner for campus policy and resource development for campus LGBTQIA2S+ student support.
  • Support division-wide admissions, orientation, homecoming, and graduation events.
  • Maintains knowledge and awareness of digital accessibility including the American with Disabilities Act and Section 508.
  • Produces and remediates digitally accessible materials in accordance with FLC standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education, Specialized Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Experience working with a variety of diverse groups in an educational setting, specifically the LGBTQIA2S+ community.
  • One or more years of experience in the supervision of staff.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Two or more years of relevant job experience including event and program management.

Preferred Education, Specialized Skills and Experience

  • Master's degree in Education, Business, Organizational Development, or related field.
  • Understanding of and experience working with LGBTQIA2S+ populations.
  • Experience in leading and implementation broad-scale diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives.
  • Experience in grant development and donor relations.
  • Experience with program assessment and evaluation.

Reports To / Supervisory Responsibility

This employee reports to the Director of Belonging under Diversity Affairs and supervises student staff.

Work Environment

Moderate noise (i.e. business office with computers, phone, and printers, light traffic). Ability to work in a confined area. Ability to sit at a computer terminal for an extended period of time.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit; talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone keyboard reach, stoop kneel to install computer equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision requirements due to computer work. Light to moderate lifting is required.

Travel

Limited travel for training or conferences may be required. However, less than 5% is expected for this.

FLSA Status/ Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

  • Exempt

  • Typical Work hours are Monday to Friday: 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Salary

The salary range is $53,000 to $57,000, plus a comprehensive benefits package.
