Job Description
Position Summary
The University of Missouri Department of Athletics is seeking an Assistant Football Dietitian to support its Football program. This position is responsible for the development, implementation, and delivery of evidence-based sports nutrition services to optimize the health, performance, recovery, and body composition of football student-athletes. This position works collaboratively with strength & conditioning, sports medicine, coaching staff, and performance personnel to support competitive excellence and athlete well-being.
Key Responsibilities:
- Sports Nutrition Programming and Performance Support (30%)
- Design and implement comprehensive nutrition programs to support training, competition, recovery, and long-term athlete development.
- Provide individualized nutrition plans tailored to position-specific demands, body composition goals, and performance needs.
- Support fueling strategies for practices, workouts, games, and travel.
- Collaborate with strength & conditioning staff to align nutrition strategies with training cycles.
- Assist in monitoring body composition and performance metrics as appropriate.
- Athlete Education and Wellness (25%)
- Educate student-athletes on fueling, hydration, recovery, supplementation, and sleep for optimal performance.
- Conduct team presentations, small-group sessions, and individual consultations.
- Support nutrition education during onboarding, preseason, and throughout the competitive year.
- Reinforce safe and compliant supplement use in accordance with NCAA guidelines.
- Promote positive relationships with food and long-term health habits.
- Practice, Training Table, and Competition Support (20%)
- Oversee and support daily fueling stations, snacks, and hydration strategies.
- Assist with training table operations, menu planning, and food service coordination.
- Provide nutrition support on game days, including pre-game, in-game, and post-game fueling.
- Travel with the football program as required to support nutrition needs during away competitions.
- Coordinate nutrition logistics for practice and competition schedules.
- Performance Collaboration and Risk Management (10%)
- Collaborate with sports medicine and performance staff on athlete availability, recovery, and wellness monitoring.
- Support hydration and heat-illness prevention strategies during training and competition.
- Assist in identifying and addressing nutrition-related risk factors affecting health or performance.
- Ensure nutrition practices align with institutional, conference, and NCAA safety standards.
- Administrative Duties and Documentation (10%)
- Maintain accurate nutrition-related documentation and athlete records as required.
- Assist with inventory management, ordering, and budgeting for nutrition supplies.
- Coordinate with vendors, food service providers, and external partners.
- Support compliance with NCAA, SEC, and University policies related to nutrition and supplementation.
- Other Duties (5%)
- Perform additional duties as assigned by Athletics administration.
- Maintain professional certifications and continuing education as required.
- Ensure compliance with University, NCAA, and SEC rules, policies, and procedures.
Shift
Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm; Nights, Weekends, and Travel as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Dietitian licensure from the Missouri Committee of Dietitians board.
Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) from the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR).
Preferred Qualifications
Prior dietitian experience in a NCAA Division I football program.
Anticipated Hiring Range
Salary Range: $53,000 - $55,000/year
Grade: PAT-008
University Title: Clinical Dietitian, Ambulatory
