Job Description Summary
Under the direction of the Facilities Director, the Assistant Maintenance Mechanic supports the operation, maintenance, and repair of building systems across the Morris Arboretum & Gardens. This role assists with mechanical, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, communications, and alarm systems, as well as the upkeep of interior and exterior furniture, fixtures, and equipment (FF&E) throughout the Morris complex. Working collaboratively with facilities leadership and staff, the Assistant Maintenance Mechanic helps ensure safe, efficient, and reliable facility operations that support public programming, research, and daily operations.
Job Description
Job Responsibilities
- Perform routine building maintenance and repairs, coordinating with external vendors as needed.
- Complete work orders and maintenance requests accurately and in a timely manner.
- Assist operational managers and the Maintenance Mechanic with daily maintenance activities and special projects.
- Provide custodial support and assist with event and meeting setup as required.
- Order, track, and maintain inventory of maintenance parts, tools, and supplies.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED and 2-3 years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Valid driver's license required.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and basic reporting skills.
