Assistant Nurse Manager
Position Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking an Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) for the Crisis Receiving Stabilization Center (CRSC) within Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care.
The primary purpose of the Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) is to be responsible for supervising the provision and management of patient care services for an assigned shift or unit on a consistent basis. The ANM serves as a resource for nursing care across the system on an as needed basis and works with other healthcare professionals to optimize patient outcomes. The ANM promotes quality patient care, patient safety and customer satisfaction. The ANM serves as the resource person for staff in explaining and executing policy and procedure. The ANM functions as a member of the interdisciplinary team; participates in quality improvement activities, educational activities and supports research endeavors. The role is consistent with the scope and standards outlined by the American Psychiatric Nurses Association for Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
- Assures the completion of admission nursing assessment and on-going risk assessments in accordance with specific unit standards and regulatory requirements.
- Supervises staff in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating delivery of care.
- Collaborates with treatment teams, clients, family and significant others in the development of individualized plans of care, on an as needed basis in an effort to promote wellness and recovery.
- Assists with patient care responsibility when required.
- Facilitates effective communication inter and intra departmentally to coordinate efforts, resolve operations problems and improve quality of patient care.
- Assists in interpreting and translating the theoretical concepts of nursing into the delivery of nursing services for all age groups.
- Plans and implements safe staffing based upon the defined staff plan.
- Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible and courteous environment.
Minimum Education and Experience
- Graduation from a state accredited school of nursing.
- Two (2) years of progressively more responsible nursing experience, one (1) year of which shall have been in the service to which the candidate is applying.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Position requires standing 2/3 of the time, walking 2/3 of the time, requires sitting 1/3 of the time, use of hands to finger, handle or feel 2/3 of the time, reach with hands and arms, 1/3 of the time, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl 1/3 of the time, talk or hear over 2/3 of the time. Manual dexterity and intermittent physical exertion when performing job activities.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Moderate noise (examples: business office with computers and printers, light traffic). Subject to unpredictable situations, patient crises, both medical and psychiatric. Occasionally exposed to patients exhibiting assaultive behaviors. Exposure to bloodborne pathogens that requires use of personal protective equipment. May be exposed to varying or extreme temperatures.
