The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering invites applications for a tenure-track appointment at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. Applicants must have expertise in Aerospace, but the position is open to a wide range of knowledge. Experiences related to aeronautical/space industries, government agencies, or research institutes/centres would be an asset. Candidates with expertise in airframe multidisciplinary design and optimization, aerospace vehicle performance, or avionics are encouraged to apply. The target start date is July 1, 2026, although this is flexible.

The candidate should have the vision and capabilities to lead interdisciplinary, multi-institution, and industrially supported research projects in their area of expertise. Candidates seeking a balanced academic career involving significant research, supervision and training of a research team of graduate and undergraduate students, and innovative teaching in undergraduate and graduate engineering programs, are ideal.

About the Academic Unit
At the Bachelor’s level, the Department has 4 programs: Mechanical, Aerospace, Biomedical & Mechanical, and Sustainable & Renewable Energy Engineering. The Aerospace Engineering program is divided into 4 streams: Stream A (Aerodynamics, Propulsion, and Vehicle Performance), Stream B (Aerospace Structures, Systems, and Vehicle Design), Stream C (Aerospace Electronics and Systems), and Stream D (Space Systems Design). At the Master’s level, the Department offers degrees in Mechanical, Aerospace, Materials, Biomedical, and Sustainable Energy Engineering. At the Ph.D. level, the Department offers degrees in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering.
The Department’s substantial strength in aerospace engineering stems from a very long history of aerospace education and research. The size and breadth of the Department’s faculty complement with research expertise in aerospace place Carleton amongst the leading aerospace institutions in Canada. Qualifications
The successful candidate must:
- Have a Ph.D. in engineering, preferably in aeronautical, astronautical, aerospace, or another related field. With prior research or industrial experience, candidates close to completion of their Ph.D. will also be considered.
- Demonstrate teaching excellence and/or demonstrate potential for outstanding teaching contributions.
- Demonstrate potential for innovative and scholarly research and the ability to develop an externally funded, high quality research program. Demonstrate excellent potential to contribute to the academic life of the Unit. Demonstration of the ability to carry out collaborative research with existing members of the Unit is an asset.
- Be licensed, or eligible to become licensed, as a professional engineer in the province of Ontario.
- Demonstrate experience and/or potential in advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion in the discipline and on campus.
