Position Description
The McGill University Department of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences invites applications for a full-time Contract Academic Staff position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor (Clinical) in General Otolaryngology with a focus in Laryngology. The professorial rank will be determined according to the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience. This will be a Contract Academic Staff position and does not confer eligibility for tenure.

Job Duties
The successful candidate will be involved in the academic activities of the McGill University Department of Otolaryngology — Head and Neck Surgery. The incumbent will join a collegial, academically engaged department with a reputation for clinical excellence and innovation. They will be primarily based at St. Mary’s Hospital, a McGill-affiliated teaching hospital serving a diverse patient population in Montreal. The incumbent will be expected to provide comprehensive general ENT care while offering specialized services in laryngology, airway, voice, and swallowing disorders.
In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to play a key role in facilitating the continuous development of otolaryngology services and academic programs at St. Mary’s Hospital, fostering collaboration with hospital leadership and allied health teams. They will also be expected to provide the full spectrum of general otolaryngology services at St. Mary’s Hospital, with emphasis on laryngology and related subspecialties.
The incumbent will be expected to lead or participate in laryngology-focused initiatives, including the multidisciplinary dysphagia and voice clinics, teach and supervise medical students, residents, and fellows in clinical and academic settings, and participate in clinical or translational research, quality improvement, and scholarly activities in general ENT and otolaryngology. The successful candidate will therefore actively contribute to departmental, university, and hospital committees or service activities and support the growth and development of St. Mary’s Hospital’s ENT programs, strengthening its role within McGill’s academic health network.

Qualifications and Education Requirements
Candidates must:
- Hold a medical degree and must hold, or be eligible for, licensure in the province of Quebec;
- Have completed subspecialty training in Otolaryngology and be certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or equivalent);
- Have completed a 12-month fellowship in Laryngology by the start date;
- Additional graduate training in the form of a master’s degree or a PhD degree would be considered an asset;
- Demonstrate excellence in general ENT practice, teaching, and academic productivity;
- Possess superior interpersonal skills and commitment to collaborative, patient-centered care;
- Bilingual language skills (French and English) are preferred, or a commitment to acquire the necessary language skills to practice medicine in Quebec. Candidates should be able to interact in English and in French with patients, families, and health care professionals.
McGill University is an English-language university where most teaching and research activities are conducted in the English language, thereby requiring English communication both verbally and in writing.
