Assistant or Associate Professor, Criminal Justice
Job Summary
The School of Social and Behavioral Sciences at Mercy University invites applications for a full-time Assistant or Associate Professor position in the Criminal Justice program, to begin in Fall 2026. This is a multi-year, non-tenure-track core faculty appointment with teaching responsibilities across undergraduate and graduate courses. Instruction may be assigned at the Bronx, Manhattan, and Dobbs Ferry campuses, as well as online, based on program needs.
The Criminal Justice program at Mercy University is committed to providing a high-quality, student-centered education grounded in social justice and interdisciplinary learning. In April 2025, the program received Program Endorsement from the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences (ACJS), reflecting a strong commitment to excellence in teaching, curriculum, and student support.
Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities
- Teach 24 credits across a range of required undergraduate and graduate courses in Criminal Justice, including Research Methods in Criminal Justice and courses such as Introduction to the Criminal Justice System, Introduction to Corrections, Criminology, and the Senior Seminar Capstone
- Maintain a teaching load with at least 50% of courses based at the Bronx campus, while remaining prepared to teach at the Manhattan and Dobbs Ferry campuses, as well as online, based on program needs
- Contribute to curriculum development, revision, and alignment with Mercy University’s mission and the standards of the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences (ACJS)
- Mentor students and support their academic and professional development
- Participate in program assessment, university service, and initiatives that promote student engagement and academic excellence
Required Skills & Experience
Demonstrated experience teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses in Criminal Justice or a related field. Ph.D. in Criminal Justice or a closely related field (ABD considered if near completion).
