The School of Social and Behavioral Sciences at Mercy University invites applications for a full-time Assistant or Associate Professor position in the Criminal Justice program, to begin in January 2026. This is a multi-year, non-tenure-track core faculty appointment based primarily at the Manhattan campus, with occasional teaching responsibilities online or at one of the other Mercy campuses.
Program Overview: The Criminal Justice program at Mercy University is committed to providing a high-quality, student-centered education grounded in social justice and interdisciplinary learning. In April 2025, the program received Program Endorsement from the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences (ACJS), a mark of distinction reflecting our commitment to excellence in teaching, curriculum, and student support.
Position Responsibilities:
- Teach a range of required undergraduate courses in Criminal Justice, including Research Methods in Criminal Justice and others among the following: Introduction to the Criminal Justice System, Introduction to Corrections, Criminology and the Senior Seminar Capstone. Opportunities may also be available to teach in the MS in Criminal Justice program.
- Maintain a teaching load with at least 50% of courses based at the Manhattan campus, while also prepared to teach some courses either online or at one of the other Mercy campuses as needed.
- Actively contribute to curriculum development, student mentoring, and program initiatives aligned with Mercy University’s mission and the standards of the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences (ACJS).
- Engage in interdisciplinary collaboration with other Manhattan-based programs such as Cybersecurity and International Relations through joint programming (e.g., guest speakers or community-based learning opportunities or development of interdisciplinary special topic courses).
- Participate in program assessment, university service, and initiatives that promote student engagement and academic excellence.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Criminal Justice or a closely related field (ABD considered if near completion).
- Proven ability to teach Research Methods in Criminal Justice along with several required courses in the Criminal Justice curriculum.
- Commitment to incorporating one or more high-impact teaching practices, such as project-based learning, community-based learning, workplace-integrated learning, faculty-mentored research, or faculty-led short-term study abroad.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Evidence of interdisciplinary scholarship or teaching in areas such as International Security, Computer Forensics, Forensic Psychology, or Cybersecurity, particularly in relation to Criminal Justice and International Relations.
- Experience or interest in curriculum development at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
- Engagement in or interest in pursuing external grants or funded initiatives.
Additional Information: This position offers a collaborative academic environment with opportunities for innovation and professional growth. As a full-time core faculty member, the selected candidate may not hold concurrent full-time employment at another institution.
