The School of Education and Human Development at the University of Virginia seeks a talented educator and program leader in special education for an Assistant or Associate level, tenure-ineligible faculty position. This is a 9-month, salaried, in-person faculty position in the Special Education Program in the Department of Curriculum, Instruction & Special Education.
The Special Education Program in UVA's School of Education and Human Development is nationally recognized as one of the top programs in the field, including being ranked No. 4 for online graduate programs in special education. The program prepares educators to teach and support students with disabilities across a range of school and clinical settings.
We seek a faculty member who can provide leadership in the area of special education. This will include coordinating one or two of the following programs: the in-person Bachelor of Science in Education (B.S.Ed.) program, online Master of Teaching (M.T.) program, and online Master of Education (M.Ed.) program in special education. The faculty member will also teach, advise, and mentor students in these programs.
Program coordination will involve supporting the day-to-day operation and ongoing improvement of the special education programs, including curriculum planning, advising and student support, program assessment, accreditation and state approval processes, recruitment and admissions, coordination with faculty and adjunct instructors, online program delivery, and communication across program partners.
This faculty member will collaborate with program and department faculty to design and deliver undergraduate and master's courses.
Duties and responsibilities, including but not limited to teaching, advising, mentoring and participation in program, departmental and school meetings are to be conducted primarily on-Grounds and in-person at the University of Virginia.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications and Experience:
- Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Special Education or a closely related field
- Experience teaching or supporting students with disabilities in elementary or secondary education contexts
- Experience teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in special education
- Experience teaching online or supporting online program delivery.
- Evidence of effective teaching and advising
Preferred Qualifications and Experience:
- Record of leadership or service in special education teacher preparation
- Experience coordinating or contributing to teacher preparation programs, licensure pathways, or academic programs
- Familiarity with accreditation, state approval, licensure documentation, program assessment, or continuous program improvement
- Demonstrated collaboration with faculty, staff, adjunct instructors, schools/divisions, or community partners
- Contributions to curriculum development, assessments, or program materials
- Preparation of educators to serve students with disabilities from culturally and/or linguistically diverse backgrounds
- Experience in one or more relevant areas, including:
- High-incidence disabilities
- Evidence-based academic and behavioral interventions
- Applied behavioral analysis
- Assessment and data-based decision-making
- High-leverage practices in special education
- Collaboration and inclusive service delivery
- Family-school collaboration
- Special education law and policy
Rank will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. Because program coordination is central to the role, candidates with substantial experience in special education teacher preparation and program leadership are especially encouraged to apply.
