Assistant or Associate Professor, Resilience of Energy Systems (tenure track)

The Department of Energy and Mechanical Engineering at the Aalto University School of Engineering invites applications for Assistant or Associate Professor, Resilience of Energy Systems (tenure track).

The Department is a community of around 300 staff members, including 30 tenure track professors, focused on research areas such as marine and arctic technology, energy technologies and systems, mechanical systems and mechatronics, and materials, manufacturing, and product development. We have strong links to industry.

We are seeking a candidate to join the Energy Conversion and Systems research group. In this role, you will advance understanding of robust and resilient sustainable energy systems. As a tenure-track faculty member, you are expected to complement faculty expertise, teach in study programs (typically two or three courses per year), supervise theses at B.Sc., M.Sc., and D.Sc. levels, and engage in curriculum development. You should have a proven record of working with industrial partners and students.

The position is located at the Aalto University Campus in Otaniemi, Espoo. We seek candidates with holistic competences in energy technologies and systems, particularly in topics such as large-scale energy systems security, robustness, and resilience in clean energy transition; assessment of decarbonized energy systems (e.g., electrified transportation and heating); and methodological contributions for assessing and enhancing energy system resilience.

Your role includes leadership in energy systems research, raising funds for your team, supervising students (often with company partners), teaching courses in energy conversion and systems, and participating in departmental and school operations.

The Energy Conversion and Systems research group collaborates with stakeholders across Aalto University and is involved in projects like the Just Energy programme and EU Horizon projects.

Ideal candidates have a relevant doctoral degree, experience in industry cooperation, and publications demonstrating a focus on designing resilient energy systems. You should have research experience in areas like international energy markets, electricity markets, or energy system transformation towards carbon neutrality, considering economic and resilience aspects. Merits in electrical engineering alone are insufficient. Experience supporting policymaking and working with companies is valued.

We seek a passionate educator whose work will have social impact. This position is for an outgoing academic able to network with Finnish industries and the academic community.

Aalto University offers an inspiring environment and follows the tenure track system. The salary is based on the university's salary system, with the option to provide your own request.

To apply, submit your application by October 19, 2025, including a motivation letter, curriculum vitae, research work portfolio, list of publications, copies of significant publications, and teaching portfolio.
