Assistant or Associate Teaching Professor, ASU ZaiXian (AZX) Psychology Program
The School of Social and Behavioral Sciences in the New College of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences at Arizona State University is seeking two active and engaged scholars who will assist with developing and delivering the curriculum for the online Master of Science in Psychology (Mandarin Pathway) program. This program was launched in Fall 2020 with the goal of providing access to graduate studies in psychology for learners located in China and other Asian countries.
This is a full-time, benefits-eligible, non-tenure-track position with an appointment at the rank of Assistant/Associate Teaching Professor, to start in August 2026. The position allows for the possibility of campus teaching and/or remote work, subject to annual approval by the New College and University for remote work exceptions.

Essential Functions of the Position:
- Teach upper and/or lower-division courses to undergraduate or graduate students, in face-to-face, hybrid, or online formats in simplified Chinese.
- Instructors are required to prepare syllabi, lectures, and class materials, exams, order textbooks, and grade assignments and exams in simplified Chinese.
- Translate course materials from English into simplified Chinese as needed.
- Coordinate regular training and supervision of graduate student teaching assistants.
- Maintain regular availability to students, including office hours as appropriate to course modality.
- Monitor student success and regularly respond to student academic issues.
- Foster collegiality throughout the organization.
- Complete periodic mandatory training.
- Monitor and respond to university, college, and school communication and requests.
- Maintain and update course materials as appropriate to the field and modality.
- Provide service to the unit, school, college, and university as appropriate for the rank.
To be considered for an Associate Teaching Professor position, one must have at least five years of relevant teaching experience and have successfully gone through the promotion process at another institution.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Doctorate or terminal degree in the discipline of psychology or related field at time of hire
- Fluency in Mandarin (simplified Chinese) and English
Desired Qualifications:
- Two or more years of experience of online teaching at the postsecondary level in the field of psychology with evidence of teaching excellence.
- Experience (through research or teaching) in Industrial and Organizational Psychology, Sports, Cognitive, Developmental, Social, Clinical and Counseling, Positive, Cultural, Digital, or Experimental Psychology
- Experience in mentoring undergraduate and graduate students.
- Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with students from a wide variety of socio-economic and cultural backgrounds, including first-generation college students.
- Experience in training and supervising teaching assistants.
- Excellent communication skills in both Mandarin and English.
- Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development.
- Evidence of teaching effectiveness - e.g., student evaluations, syllabi, peer observation, annual evaluations, etc.
- Experience of teaching in a bilingual (i.e. Mandarin and English) context.
- Experience in online instruction and course development using learning management systems such as Canvas, with the capacity to teach broadly across undergraduate and graduate psychology courses.
