Job Description:
An Assistant Plumber supports Master Plumbers in installing, maintaining, and repairing plumbing systems.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- None.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Assisting with Installations
- Help install pipes, fixtures, and appliances (e.g., sinks, toilets, water heaters).
- Carry tools and materials to job sites.
- Maintenance and Repairs
- Support in diagnosing plumbing issues.
- Assist in repairing leaks, clogs, and broken fixtures.
- Preparing Work Areas
- Clear and set up job sites.
- Ensure safety protocols are followed.
- Cleaning and Organizing
- Clean up after installations or repairs.
- Maintain tools and equipment.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Basic knowledge of plumbing systems.
- Ability to use hand and power tools.
- Physical stamina and manual dexterity.
- Willingness to learn and follow safety procedures.
Experience:
- Entry-Level Experience
0-2 years of plumbing-related experience is often acceptable.
On-the-job training is usually provided. - Apprenticeship or Vocational Training (Preferred)
Completion of a plumbing apprenticeship or vocational program is a plus.
Basic understanding of plumbing systems, tools, and safety procedures. - Hands-On Work
Experience assisting with installations, repairs, or maintenance of plumbing systems.
Familiarity with using hand and power tools. - Worksite Exposure
Prior work in construction, maintenance, or facilities support is beneficial.
Experience working in residential, commercial, or industrial settings. - Soft Skills
Ability to follow instructions and work under supervision
Good communication and teamwork skills.
Physical Requirements:
- Strength and Stamina
Ability to lift and carry heavy tools, equipment, and materials (often 50+ lbs).
Endurance to work long hours, sometimes in uncomfortable positions. - Manual Dexterity
Skilled use of hands and fingers for handling tools, fittings, and small parts.
Ability to grip, twist, and manipulate objects precisely. - Mobility and Flexibility
Frequent bending, kneeling, crouching, and climbing.
Ability to work in confined spaces like crawlspaces or under sinks. - Balance and Coordination
Safe movement on ladders, scaffolding, or uneven surfaces.
Good hand-eye coordination for tool use and installations. - Visual and Auditory Ability
Clear vision for reading blueprints, identifying pipe sizes, and spotting leaks.
Ability to hear running water, dripping, or other plumbing-related sounds. - Environmental Tolerance
Comfortable working in various weather conditions (hot, cold, wet).
Exposure to dust, dirt, and potentially hazardous materials.
Salary:
This is a non-exempt position with an hourly rate of $18.14.
Hours Expectation:
Full-time, 40 hours per week
