The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the Perelman
School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks
candidates for an Assistant Professor position in the non-tenure
academic clinician track. Expertise is required in the specific
area of of the clinical practice of molecular genetics and genomic
pathology with broad experience in the review and interpretation of
massively parallel sequencing data, advanced genomics, molecular
and genomic test development, and, for appropriately certified
candidates, cytogenetics. The successful candidate must have
excellent communication skills, a thoughtful and consistent
approach to clinical data review and reporting and be proactive in
identifying and solving problems. Applicants must have an M.D
and/or Ph.D or equivalent degree. Certification or eligibility is
required by either the American Board of Pathology, in Molecular
Genetic Pathology (MGP) or the American Board of Medical Genetics
and Genomics in Laboratory Genetics and Genomics (LGG).
Teaching responsibilities may include didactic teaching as well as
case-based teaching during case sign-out with residents, fellows,
and medical students in diverse aspects of clinical molecular
genetics and genomics.
Clinical responsibilities may include review, interpretation, and
sign-out of DNA- and RNA-based molecular assays, including
massively parallel sequencing and targeted molecular pathology
assays, as well as cytogenetics for candidates who are
appropriately certified. Additional responsibilities will include
participation in the design, validation, and implementation of new
tests in the Division of Precision and Computational Diagnostics.
Experience in the development of molecular genomic assays,
especially laboratory-developed tests (LDTs), is desirable.
Periodic interaction with divisional, departmental, and
enterprise-wide faculty and staff for collaborations and/or
communications relevant to the clinical laboratory will be
required. Ability to review and efficiently integrate molecular,
genomic, cytogenetic, and relevant clinical and pathologic data for
reporting and dissemination of results will be important for
effectiveness in this position.
