Description
Hood College is seeking a full-time (12-month), tenure-track Assistant Professor of Nursing who will also serve as the Director of the newly created graduate program in nursing and will serve as the Director of the AGPCNP Track within the Graduate Nursing Track within the Graduate Nursing Program. This position provides specialty-track-level oversight and works in close collaboration with, and under the general direction of, the Graduate Nursing Program Director, the Nursing Department Chair, and the Dean of the School of Behavioral and Health Sciences. The Director of the Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner (AGPCNP) Track is responsible for the leadership, administration, and development of the AGPCNP educational program. This position provides specialty-track oversight for the AGPCNP program for its current program cycle. This role involves overseeing curriculum design, student recruitment, and ensuring compliance with accreditation standards. The full-time track director is responsible for teaching in the candidates' area of expertise and overseeing the AGPCNP track within the Master of Nursing program. The candidate will have current AGPCNP certification, experience in curriculum or program development, accreditation, and a strong background in teaching/mentoring students.
Essential Duties
include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Program Director (30%)
- Ensure alignment with institutional goals and objectives.
- Foster a collaborative and inclusive environment among faculty and staff.
- Oversee the design, implementation, and evaluation of the AGPCNP curriculum.
- Integrate current best practices and evidence-based approaches into the AGPCNP program.
- Regularly assess and update course content to meet evolving healthcare needs.
- Provide strategic direction for the AGPCNP program.
- Establish preceptor sites for AGPCNP program
- Investigate and apply for extramural funding opportunities related to the AGPCNP track.
- Support the graduate school on recruitment efforts for the AGPCNP track
- Develop and oversee an assessment plan for the AGPCNP track, in collaboration with the Graduate Program Administrator in alignment with the assessment culture at the College and in alignment with accreditation standards.
- Serve on the graduate council as AGPCNP track director.
- Establish regional partnerships with the goal of identifying experiential learning opportunities for students and potential research opportunities for faculty.
- Other job-related duties as assigned.
Teaching (40%)
- Demonstrate an ability/potential for quality teaching.
- Teach 15 credits in nursing (both undergraduate and graduate as assigned by the Chair).
- Plan courses, write syllabi and design assignments for each course to meet Hood College and departmental curriculum requirements and assessment needs, utilizing a variety of teaching techniques.
- Present lectures and supervise class activities on topics appropriate to the course material.
- Instruct students in course content and provide learning opportunities in and out of the classroom to achieve course objectives.
- Critique performance on various assignments to measure the quality of learning, to facilitate skill building, to challenge students' assumptions, and to reinforce concepts, which must include practical application of new skills.
- Maintain weekly office hours, be available before and after class and be in contact with students as appropriate. Work with the student to address problems and resolve issues.
- Utilize digital and electronic platforms such as Blackboard and Chalk & Wire in instruction, record-keeping, and data collection.
- Other job-related duties as assigned.
Scholarship/Professional Development (15%)
- Conduct, present and/or publish research in the field, ideally involving students.
- Participate in other scholarly activities in the field.
- Engage in ongoing professional development in the field, as well as in teaching/pedagogy.
Service (15%)
- Serve as advisor or committee member for master's students.
- Advise graduate master's students.
- Support and participate in college committees.
- Serve as an actively engaged member of the department.
- Travel (not applicable)

Education and/or Experience
- Minimum of 1-2 years of graduate-level teaching experience in nursing.
- Unencumbered RN license (Maryland) or have multi-state license.
- National certification as Adult-Gerontology Primary Care NP (by AANP or ANCC) .
- Minimum of 2-3 years of recent clinical practice as an AGPCNP.
- Demonstrated leadership experience in academic or clinical settings.
- Must have a terminal degree (PhD or DNP). If PhD-prepared, must have a master's degree in nursing.
Preferred Skills and Characteristics
Technology Skills
Proficient in MS Office tools (Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), e-mail and Internet. Ability to learn new applications quickly including organization-wide information systems and department-specific software applications.
Language Skills
Strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to effectively provide information and positively respond to questions from both external and internal customers both in person and by phone. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Mathematical Skills
Proficient with statistical and financial concepts. Must have the ability to apply those concepts to tracking, projections, goal setting, and interpreting reports. Must be able to draw conclusions from reports and make cost effective decisions regarding programs.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a number of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to work independently and as a member of a group in developing and executing project plans. Ability to work in the theoretical arena and apply logic as appropriate.
Compensation
The salary for this position ranges from $76,500 to $85,000 depending on circumstances including an applicant's skills and qualifications, certain degrees and certifications, prior job experience, training, and other relevant factors. Additional compensation for work completed beyond the minimum contracted teaching load may be provided. Hood College has provided a compensation range representing its good faith estimate of what the College may pay for the position at the time of posting. The College may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range.
