The School of Communication

The School of Communication at HKBU, consisting of the Department of Interactive Media, Department of Journalism, and Department of Communication Studies, has a thriving student population of over 1,500 who are enrolled in 14 Bachelor, Master, and PhD programs. At this leading communication school in the Asia-Pacific region, faculty members actively initiate and participate in interdisciplinary collaboration with researchers from top-tier universities in various parts of the world.

The Department of Interactive Media

The Department offers a Bachelor of Communication (Honours) Degree. It invites applications for full-time positions of Associate Professor/Professor in Interactive Media, particularly in the following areas:
• AI/Computational Communication
• Game Design and Animation
• Data Science
• Information Science
• Digital and Social Media
• Interactive Media
• Media Technology
• Emerging Media Studies

The appointee(s) are expected to:
i. conduct cutting-edge research and contribute to the research strengths of the Department;
ii. deliver high-quality teaching and supervision to undergraduate and/or postgraduate level(s);
iii. obtain competitive research grants; and
iv. contribute to professional and institutional services.

Potential candidates should:
• hold a PhD degree in Communication, Computer Science, or related field(s);
• have an active research programme or agenda;
• possess an excellent track record of high-impact research and publications in international refereed journals;
• demonstrate the ability to pursue externally-funded research projects;
• demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in teaching; and
• show a good fit with the existing department strengths.

The initial appointment will be offered on a fixed-term contract of up to three years commencing August/September 2023 or on a mutually agreed date. Re-appointments thereafter will be subject to performance and mutual agreement. Outstanding candidates at Associate Professor or above may be hired with direct tenure.

Rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
