Assistant Professor - Child Language Development & Disorders

The Department of Communication Disorders and Sciences at SUNY Fredonia offers a Bachelor in Science in Communication Disorders and Sciences, and a Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology degree. MS graduates meet the Academic and Clinical hour requirements for ASHA certification, for New York State licensure, and for Initial Certification as a Teacher of Students with Speech and Language Disabilities (TSSLD).

The Department of Communication Disorders and Sciences at SUNY Fredonia, invites applications for an Assistant Professor with expertise in Childhood Language Development and Disorders. The selected candidate will teach graduate and undergraduate classes language development and disorders, phonetics, articulation disorders, mentor students, and conduct independent research in a relevant area of expertise. Research laboratory may be available, as well as support for travel and professional organization fees.

Experience with University teaching and relevant research/peer reviewed publications are preferred. Salary range is competitive with peer institutions for rank and in keeping with candidate experience and credentials. This is a 10-month position and with an anticipated start in the Fall of 2025.

Reporting to the Chair, the successful candidate will:

  • Teach graduate and undergraduate courses in the areas of child language development and child language development disorders. Course assignments may include related areas such as phonetics/ phonology and articulation disorders;
  • Conduct research in areas of interest, and disseminate findings in peer review journals, at professional conferences, etc.;
  • Mentor student research and scholarship;
  • Provide academic advisement to students;
  • Participate in committees and provide service to the department, college, university, and profession;
  • Demonstrated commitment to the university, division, and profession;
  • Be aware of, understand, and follow all university policies.

This is a full-time, UUP -represented, tenure track position beginning Fall 2025, with a salary range of $64,000-$74,000, commensurate with experience.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Earned a doctorate (Ph.D. or equivalent) in SLP or related field;
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct research in childhood language development and/or disorders;
  • Demonstrated ability to teach graduate and undergraduate courses in childhood language development and disorders and related areas;
  • Commitment to and ability to work with a diverse group of students, faculty, staff, and constituents in support of equity and inclusion.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Training, expertise, and/or experience working with children Autism Spectrum Disorders;
  • Publication(s) in a peer reviewed journal or demonstration of an independent research agenda;
  • Experience with instructional technology and online learning;
  • Experience mentoring student research and scholarship;
  • Possession of ASHA certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (ASHA CCC-SLP);
  • Interest in, and commitment to, community engagement.
